Rams Urged to Make Free-Agent Signing of Former Seahawks Star

Former Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner remains a free agent after spending two seasons with the Washington Commanders. Nonetheless, if Wagner wants to continue playing, especially for a contender, he’s receiving a strong message on what team needs to sign him.

Wagner has already had two stints with the Seahawks; now Kay Adams is urging the Los Angeles Rams to bring him back for a second stint. After Seattle cut ties with him in 2022, Wagner signed with the Rams and was one-and-done after one season.

With Los Angeles in a window to win a Super Bowl, Adams believes Wagner could be of use to the Rams.

“Bobby Wagner is a Hall of Famer and a veteran, and I know this might sound a little wild, but can we get him back to the Rams, please?” Adams said on the April 29 edition of “Up & Adams.” “Now, let’s go with this because he brings leadership. Do I even have to say these things? Instinct, ferocity, tenacity, tackling. That is all still very much a part of his game.

“Don’t you want somebody who can help this young defense? Okay, you never say no to having Bobby Wagner in the building. He will make every single part of that front seven better, and I feel like this is the one area in L.A. that does potentially need an upgrade.”

Bengals Also Seen as Landing Spot for Ex-Seahawks Star

With the draft now in the rear-view mirror, veteran players like Wagner are generating interest. Moreover, the Rams aren’t the only team being floated as a potential landing spot for the former Seahawks standout.

As a result, CBS Sports’ Bryan DeArdo is urging the Cincinnati Bengals to sign Wagner as a short-term solution, who would bring both veteran and championship experience.

“The Bengals need a veteran inside linebacker to complete their aggressive defensive overhaul, DeArdo wrote in his April 26 article. “Wagner is unsigned and likely hopes to play for a legitimate title contender in 2026.

“Yes, the Bengals were 6-11 last season, but that was because Joe Burrow missed more than half of the season with an injury and the Bengals’ defense was historically bad for most of the year. Burrow is healthy now, though, and the Bengals’ defense should be much better in 2026 with their recent additions on that side of the ball, which include three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence.”

Bobby Wagner Has Plenty of Gas Left In the Tank

Last season with Washington, Wagner posted an overall defensive grade of 78.6 from PFF, ranking ninth among 88 qualified linebackers. His work in coverage was less effective, posting a 51.1 grade that placed 51st. Against the run, though, he stood out with a 90.3 grade, good for fifth at the position, while his 92.4 pass-rush grade ranked second among qualified linebackers.

He finished the year with 107 solo tackles and created 20 total pressures, including five sacks as a blitzer. Opposing quarterbacks posted a 107.2 passer rating when targeting him in coverage, and he missed eight tackles.

It will be interesting to see what contender Wagner decides to sign with, as he still has plenty of gas left in the tank. Nonetheless, if it’s with the Rams, Seahawks fans will need to brace for seeing him twice this upcoming 2026 season.
