Pittsburgh Pirates Announce Konnor Griffin Decision For Phillies Game

On Saturday, the Pittsburgh Pirates will continue their series with the Philadelphia Phillies at PNC Park.

They are coming off an 11-9 loss (on Friday).

Konnor Griffin finished the loss with one hit, one run and one RBI in five at-bats.

For Saturday’s game, the Pirates have announced their starting lineup.

Underdog MLB wrote: “Pirates 5/16 O. Cruz CF K. Griffin SS B. Reynolds LF M. Ozuna DH R. O’Hearn 1B N. Gonzales 3B B. Lowe 2B J. Triolo RF H. Davis C B. Chandler SP”

Griffin will be batting second for only the second time in his MLB career.

The 20-year-old has mostly been at the bottom of the order (as seventh or eighth).

Right now, he is batting .254 with 36 hits, three home runs, 20 RBI’s, 19 runs and 10 stolen bases in his first 39 MLB games.

James Anderson of RotoWire wrote (before Friday’s game): “Konnor Griffin is hitting .280/.330/.450 w/ 3 HR and 9 SB over the last four weeks. He turned 20 a few weeks ago”

Griffin was the ninth pick in the 2024 MLB Draft.

He is one of the best prospects in the history of the Pirates.

In five Triple-A games this season, Griffin batted .438 with seven hits, one RBI, four runs and three stolen bases.

Dominic Campbell of Pirates OnSI wrote (on Friday): “Konnor Griffin has stolen 11 bases on 11 tries this season He ties Chase d’Arnaud (2011) for the second-most stolen bases without getting caught for a Pirates rookie”

The Pirates come into Saturday’s game as the fourth-place team in the National League Central with a 24-21 record in 45 games.

That said, they are just 2.5 games back of the Milwaukee Brewers for second (and 5.0 games behind the Chicago Cubs for first).
