Pistons Get Major Injury Update On Cade Cunningham

The Detroit Pistons will face the Houston Rockets at home on Friday, January 23, and they may be getting their best player back from injury.

Cade Cunningham is listed as probable with a left hip contusion on the official injury report. The guard had 16 points, three rebounds and 14 assists on 23.5% shooting from in a 104-103 win over the Boston Celtics on Monday, January 19.

Cunningham is having one of his best seasons in the NBA, averaging 25.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and 9.8 assists while shooting 45.2% from the field and 32.7% from three. He was named a starter for the All-Star Game on Monday.

Is Cade Cunningham Playing Tonight?

Cunningham missed Wednesday’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans with the same injury. His team was able to overcome his absence and earn a 112-104 win, but the Rockets will present more of a challenge if the Pistons are shorthanded.

Detroit, however, won’t take any chances with Cunningham if he is not feeling 100%. The team will likely evaluate him pregame and then make a final decision on his status. If Cunningham is out again, Daniss Jenkins will likely start in his place.

Ronald Holland III (illness) and Duncan Robinson (lower back sprain) are probable for tonight. Caris LeVert (illness) is doubtful.

Detroit Pistons Trade Rumors

Detroit is currently atop the Eastern Conference and looks like the favorite to reach the NBA Finals. The Pistons are reportedly taking a more patient approach ahead of the trade deadline, but if an opportunity arises to make their team even better, they could certainly get involved.

Jaren Jackson Jr. is one potentially available player who would make the Pistons’ frontcourt, which already includes Ausar Thompson and Jalen Duren, the most formidable one in the league. Michael Scotto of HoopsHype recently reported that Detroit, along with Boston, is interested in a deal with the Memphis Grizzlies for the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year.

The Pistons could also be in the market for the Pelicans’ Herb Jones, if he is made available. Detroit could offer the two first-round picks New Orleans is reportedly looking for. Jaden Ivey, the talented young guard who is returning from a leg injury he suffered last year, could also entice the Pelicans to trade Jones.
