The Green Bay Packers have one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL leading the charge heading into the 2026 season. Jordan Love has been a star since taking over for Aaron Rodgers and many are expecting another leap this year.
With that in mind, the Packers have narrowed down his list of weapons.
During the NFL offseason, Green Bay watched Romeo Doubs leave town to sign with the New England Patriots. Doubs has been Love’s No. 1 target over the last couple of years. The Packers also decided to trade Dontayvion Wicks to the Philadelphia Eagles.
At this point in time, Green Bay has Christian Watson, Matthew Golden, Jayden Reed, and Savion Williams as its top wide receivers. There is a lot of talent in that group, but there are also questions that remain.
Could the Packers still be in the market to add a veteran wide receiver for Love? That is what one new suggestion has urged the team to do.
Packers Urged to Pursue $15.8 Million Weapon for Jordan Love
Entering the 2026 season, Green Bay is all-in on trying to bring another Lombardi Trophy back home to Lambeau Field. In order to accomplish that goal, the Packers should stop at nothing to invest in Love.
Sporting News analyst Dharya Sharma has suggested that Green Bay should look to sign Deebo Samuel late in free agency.
“At this stage of his career, Samuel is more of an intermediate threat, as he had just four catches over 20 yards last year,” Sharma wrote. “However, that is the type of receiver the Packers need to pair with Watson, Golden, and Reed, who all possess game-breaking speed.”
Sharma did note that both Reed and Golden would potentially be impacted by a Samuel signing.
“Reed and Golden would be most affected by a Samuel signing, as those two also do a ton of their work in the slot. But that shouldn’t be an issue because Samuel and Golden also have the ability to play on the outside compared to Reed, who has logged 75% of his career snaps in the slot.”
Deebo Samuel Would Be Well Worth a Gamble for Green Bay
Last season with the Washington Commanders, the 30-year-old wide receiver played in 16 games. He racked up 72 receptions for 727 yards and five touchdowns.
Samuel would not be added to be a No. 1 wideout for Love. Rather, he would simply add another possession wideout who could make some plays for the star quarterback when targeted.
One major concern for the Packers right now is depth. If Watson, Reed, or Golden were to go down, there would be a possibility of the offense dropping off.
Bringing Samuel onboard would help mitigate that risk.
Spotrac has projected Samuel’s market value to be around $15.8 million per season. That price tag might be a bit lower this late in the offseason. On a one or potentially two-year deal, Green Bay should consider the option.
