The Washington Commanders‘ decision to sign four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs continues to earn praise across the NFL.
Among the biggest supporters is NFL analytics expert Warren Sharp, who called Diggs a “perfect match” for quarterback Jayden Daniels after Washington agreed to terms with the veteran receiver.
Sharp has been one of the Commanders’ biggest critics this offseason, arguing the team had not done enough to surround Daniels with proven offensive talent. That’s why he believes adding Diggs changes the outlook for Washington’s offense.

After news of the signing broke, Sharp praised the move and followed it with a video comparing Diggs’ production to Washington’s receiving corps from last season.
He described the pairing of Diggs and Daniels as a “perfect match,” believing the veteran receiver gives Washington exactly what it had been missing opposite Terry McLaurin.
The Commanders agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $12 million with Diggs, according to ESPN.
The four-time Pro Bowler is coming off another productive season with the New England Patriots, where he caught 85 passes for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns.
According to CBS Sports Research, Diggs’ 83.3% catch rate ranked as the second-highest by an NFL wide receiver over the past 45 seasons. Only Michael Thomas posted a higher mark when he recorded an 85% catch rate in 2018.
Washington now has the proven No. 2 receiver many believed it lacked entering training camp.
Diggs Believes He’s the NFL’s Best No. 2 Receiver
Before signing with Washington, Diggs made it clear he embraces the opportunity to line up alongside another star receiver.
Speaking on his YouTube channel in July, Diggs said he believes no team’s second receiver is better than him.
“Everybody got a 1,” Diggs said. “Opportunities aside, people might say there’s seven real 1s. In my opinion, I can compete with anybody, but take those as your 1s.”
He continued, “You can’t name a No. 2 better than me. There’s not a No. 2 on a team. Let’s presumably give people the credit and just say, ‘OK, you want to take the No. 1 spot away.’ Name your No. 2 receiver right now. Tell me how much he makes. My last question is: Is he better than me?”
Diggs’ confidence comes after a career that includes four straight 100-catch seasons from 2020 through 2023, a streak tied for the second longest in NFL history.
Commanders Address a Major Need for Jayden Daniels
Before signing Diggs, Washington added several offensive pieces this offseason, including tight end Chig Okonkwo, running back Rachaad White, wide receivers Dyami Brown and Van Jefferson, and third-round draft pick Antonio Williams.
While those additions improved the Commanders’ depth, many analysts believed the team still lacked a proven receiver opposite McLaurin.
Sharp had repeatedly criticized Washington for not doing enough to help Daniels after the quarterback led the team to a 12-5 record and an NFC Championship Game appearance as a rookie.
