The New York Yankees are playing very good baseball to start the 2026 season. They hold a 13-9 record, which is one of the best marks in the American League.
However, series against divisional opponents matter a little more, especially when the Yanks take on the Boston Red Sox. On Tuesday, the Red Sox and New York Yankees will square off in their first matchup of the season. The three-game series is at Fenway Park. On Tuesday, a notable Anthony Volpe decision was made, but it doesn’t pertain to the current Yankees roster.

New York Yankees Reassign Anthony Volpe Before Red Sox Series

It’s not a roster move that revolves around the Yankees-Red Sox first matchup of the season, but on Tuesday, New York reassigned Anthony Volpe:
“Today, the Yankees transferred the rehab assignment of INF Anthony Volpe from Double-A Somerset to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.”
It’s unclear how long he will stay in Triple-A, as many fans would like to see him in the big leagues soon, to get a taste of how he will perform this season.
Volpe tore his labrum sometime during last season, and it required offseason shoulder. He’s currently on track for his potential return.

Anthony Volpe has spent three full MLB seasons with the Yankees.
In 472 total games and 1717 at-bats, Volpe has 52 home runs, 82 doubles, a .222 batting average, and an 83 OPS+. The OPS+ is slightly below league-average, but Volpe has been able to show a strong display of power at times.
However, his big Achilles heel is striking out at a high clip. He’s struck out 150+ times in all three seasons of his career. In 2025, Volpe hit .212 with 19 HR, 72 RBI, and an OPS of .663.
It’s a tough game, but Yankees fans were under the impression that Anthony Volpe could be the next Derek Jeter.
