Fever Star Caitlin Clark Notches Career Milestone vs Wings

On May 9th, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever opened up the 2026 WNBA season against the Dallas Wings. The All-Star guard came out the gates strong, notching another career milestone on the way.

After an injury-ridden sophomore season, Clark is eager to return to form this year. She filled the stat sheet in the Fever’s opener, ending the afternoon with 20 points, five rebounds, and seven assists in 31 minutes of action.

With this strong offensive showing, Clark was able to break the 1,000-point mark for her career.

Despite getting strong showings from Clark and other key members of the team, Indiana was unable to kick off the season in the win column. Things ended up going down to the wire, with the Wings walking out with a 107-104 victory.

Caitlin Clark Reflects on Fever’s Nail-Biting Matchup Against the Dallas Wings

Even though things didn’t go the Fever’s way on Saturday, Clark and company aren’t getting hung up on one loss. She applauded the Wings during her postgame press conference while also citing this matchup as a learning experience for Indiana.

“It was a great test, it was a great game,” Clark told reporters. “Our locker room was positive afterwards. We’re not going to hang our heads, we’re going to move forward. A lot to be proud of and a lot to learn from too. It’s only one of 44, we got a long way to go.”

The star guard also weighed in on how she feels physically after spending the majority of last year on the sidelines.

“Overall I felt good,” Clark said. “I felt fast out there. Felt like I was a couple of buckets away from putting together a really good game and helping us win.”

Fever Coach Provides Heath Update on Caitlin Clark

Throughout the matchup, one key thing that was being monitored was Clark’s time on the bench. When off the floor, she went back to the training room multiple times to get her back looked at. However, it appears that the Fever star is in a good place physically.

During her postgame availability, Fever coach Stephanie White spoke on Clark’s in-game work with the training staff. She noted that this is something she’ll continue to do moving forward, but it isn’t a cause for concern.

“Trying to get her body mechanically the way that it needs to go, this is going to be an ongoing thing,” White said Saturday. “It’s part of being a professional athlete, nothing really outside of that…We wouldn’t have player her 30 minutes if she wasn’t okay.”

Given how things unfolded last year, the Fever are sure to be cautious when it comes to their cornerstone talent. Properly managing her workload and health are sure to be top priorities as Indiana looks to enter the contender conversation this season.
