The New York Yankees never quit Friday night in their series opener against the Atlanta Braves.
They trailed 2-0 entering the ninth inning but scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning, held the Braves scoreless in the top of the 10th and walked it off to win 3-2.
Ahead of Saturday’s matchup featuring Chris Sale on the mound for Atlanta and Gerrit Cole for the Yankees, manager Aaron Boone has made some lineup changes.
Yankees Announce Jazz Chisholm Jr. Decision
After starting at second base in each of the Yankees’ most recent games, Jazz Chisholm Jr. will not be in the starting lineup for Game 2 of the series.
He’s struggled mightily as of late, going 2-for-22 at the plate. Instead, Jose Caballero will start at second base and bat eighth in the lineup.

Chisholm Jr.’s 2026 Season
This season, Chisholm Jr. has had his moments for the Yankees but has largely struggled with consistency at the plate.
He’s currently batting .215 with 54 runs, 82 hits, 17 home runs, 47 RBIs and 30 stolen bases. He’s slugging .396 and has a .757 OPS.
Yankees Right Now
New York is 65-51 entering Saturday’s contest, clinging to a half-game lead over the surging Boston Red Sox, who are 64-51.
The Yankees currently hold the second-best record in the American League, while the Red Sox sit just behind them. The standings could ultimately determine which team hosts a best-of-three Wild Card Series, with the Tampa Bay Rays currently sitting ahead of both clubs.
