New York Yankees Announce Interesting Signing Before Rangers Game

The New York Yankees are currently 25-12, and taking on the Texas Rangers in a three-game series. With the series split 1-1, New York will be going for the series win on Thursday afternoon.

Before the Thursday matinee game against the Rangers, the Yankees announced a notable roster move.

New York Yankees X account wrote (on May 7): “Prior to today’s game, the Yankees signed RHP Brendan Beck (#89) to a Major League contract and selected him to the active roster.”

Brendan Beck Could Make MLB Debut

Last night, the Yankees announced they were optioning Yerry de los Santos, which likely paved the way for this signing to take place. Brendan Beck is yet to make his MLB debut, and could potentially do so on Thursday. Paul Blackburn is slated to get the start on Thursday, but manager Aaron Boone could try to throw in Brendan Beck to see what he’s got.

Beck, 27, appeared in the World Baseball Classic for Team Great Britain and has spent his 2026 season in Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Ryan Weathers could potentially be injured, which isn’t the root cause of this call-up (the de los Santos option is), but it makes sense why the Yankees have decided to select the contract of another pitcher.

During the World Baseball Classic, Beck pitched just four innings, but he did not allow a run, and tallied four strikeouts.

He was drafted by the New York Yankees in the second round of the 2021 MLB draft out of Stanford. In three minor league seasons, Beck has an ERA of 3.38 in 202.1 innings of work. All things considered, he swiftly made his way through the Yankees pipeline, and now perhaps will get the opportunity to prove himself at the major league level. He made 15 starts with Triple-A last season and posted an ERA of 4.44 over 77 innings.

New York Yankees Right Now

The New York Yankees are enjoying one of their best starts in the 2000s.

However, even at 25-12, New York is just 0.5 games ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays (who are also on fire) for the American League division lead.
