NBA Star Anthony Davis Gets New Update Before Sixers Game

The 2025-2026 NBA season is winding down, and the Washington Wizards have yet to see their star acquisition, Anthony Davis, on the court.

For a long time, the assumption has been that Davis would take the remainder of the season off to rehab his hand injury. He would start fresh with the Wizards in 2026-2027.

The Wizards wouldn’t commit to that idea. While the Wizards aren’t placing a return date on Davis this year, the team made an official announcement regarding his recovery, as positive steps were taken.

“Davis, who is out with ligament damage in his left hand, was reevaluated Monday by Dr. Steven Shin of Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Davis’ recovery continues to progress as expected and is healing on schedule. He has been cleared for light contact as he progresses toward his full return. Updates will be provided as appropriate.”

Davis, 33, joined the Wizards ahead of the NBA’s 2026 trade deadline.

Anthony Davis’ Run In The NBA

A little over one year after being traded from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Dallas Mavericks, Davis was dealt to Washington. The Wizards plan to turn around their rebuild with Davis and Trae Young as the new faces of the franchise.

During his 20-game run in 2025-2026, Davis averaged 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game. He also came up with 1.1 steals per game and 1.7 blocks per game.

When Davis entered the league in 2012, he was the top prospect coming out of Kentucky. Davis was selected by the Pelicans.

For seven seasons, Davis starred for the Pelicans. He had a lot of personal success, but the team frequently came up short.

The Los Angeles Lakers acquired Davis ahead of the 2019-2020 season. That was the start of a six-year run with the Lakers. During Davis’ first season in LA, the star forward won his first and only NBA Championship.

In 2024-2025, Davis was a headliner in one of the most stunning NBA trades in recent times. He was sent to Dallas, who sent out Luka Doncic. At the time, Doncic wasn’t known to be on the block. Ultimately, the Mavericks cut their losses. They accepted that Davis wasn’t a long-term fit.

The run with the Wizards is likely on hold until next season, but every update has been positive since Davis landed with the Wizards.
