Musical artist Drake dropped multiple albums overnight, and as has been the case in the past, the sports world, and more specifically the NBA world, had strong reactions to the new music.
Drake made headlines for mentioning a few stars in particular, seemingly taking a shot at LeBron James while praising Stephen Curry.
But regardless, the latest drop from the rapper who has been omnipresent in the NBA over the past decade-plus drew strong reactions from current NBA players and athletes across the sports world.
NBA Players And Athletes React To New Drake Albums
GettyHOUSTON, TEXAS – MARCH 16: Rapper, songwriter, and icon Drake attends a game between the Houston Rockets and the Cleveland Cavaliers at Toyota Center on March 16, 2024 in Houston, Texas.
Tyrese Haliburton was one of the first NBA players to react to Drake’s album release, hinting that he was happy there were no playoff games to watch so he could enjoy the new music.
“No playoff games cuz Iceman here, respect @NBA,” the Indiana Pacers star wrote in a post on X.
Fellow All-Star point guard Trae Young, a noted Drake fan, also made his thoughts clear on the new album releases.
“Nahhhhh. It’s officially time Drake,” Young wrote in a post, also including ‘goat’ and ‘salute’ emojis in the post.
Jordan Clarkson also had a brief response to Drake’s albums, as the New York Knicks guard posted an ‘owl’ emoji on X, referencing the rapper’s OVO brand.
Nick Richards of the Chicago Bulls got in on the Drake talk, too.
“Spotify crashing is next level,” he wrote.
With Drake and Future collaborating on a song together, Bleacher Report also posted the legendary picture of James and Dwyane Wade, but used the heads of the two rappers instead.
Drake References LeBron And Stephen Curry In New Album Releases
GettyTORONTO, ON – MARCH 18: Drake and LeBron James #6 of the Los Angeles Lakers talk after the NBA game between the Toronto Raptors and the Los Angeles Lakers at Scotiabank Arena on March 18, 2022 in Toronto, Canada.
Drake seemingly took shot at James in his “Make Them Remember” song. The two previously had a strong relationship, but after the Lakers’ star was seen singing to a Kendrick Lamar song, Drake’s chief rival, their relationship doesn’t look to be as solid now.
“I shouldn’t even be shocked to see you in that arena, because you always made your career off of switching teams up.”
“Please stop asking what’s going on with 23 and me,” and “he’s not, it’s in my DNA,” Drake seemingly said of James.
Additionally, the rap star praised Curry of the Golden State Warriors with a line about the three-point shooting specialist.
“Back when they was asking about where Davidson was at… now everybody got a blue 30 on they back.”
Curry reacted with a post on his Instagram story.
Drake also made references to Kobe Bryant, Wilt Chamberlain, Kyrie Irving, Michael Jordan, Kevin Durant, Muggsy Bogues, and Gilbert Arenas, and more, but the James and Curry comments were the most notable.
Like many previous Drake album releases, this newest one caught the attention of the NBA and entire sports world, as he wasn’t afraid to praise and diss some of the top athletes.
