NBA Announces Luka Doncic News Amid Lakers Trade Rumors

Halfway through his first full season with the Los Angeles Lakers, Luka Doncic continues to prove himself as one of the most impactful offensive players in the NBA.

That has been on full display this year, and specifically over the past week, as the league announced Doncic has been named the Western Conference Player of the Week for week 14 of the 2025-26 NBA season.

Helping the Lakers to a 2-1 record, Doncic put up averages of 34.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, 9.7 assists, and two steals per game on 49.2% shooting.

It is now the second time Doncic has taken home the weekly award while playing for Los Angeles, and the 16th time he’s earned the honor in his career.

Luka Doncic Wins Player Of The Week After Three Strong Performances

Doncic and the Lakers began last week with an eight-point win over the Denver Nuggets. The Slovenian finished with 38 points, 13 rebounds, and ten assists in what was his 52nd 30-point triple-double as he passed Nikola Jokic for the second-most all-time.

“It marked his fourth 30-point triple-double of the season, making him just the third player in Lakers history to achieve at least four in a single campaign, joining LeBron James and Magic Johnson,” the team wrote in a statement announcing the news. “Against the Nuggets, Dončić surpassed 14,000 career regular season points, becoming the youngest point guard ever to reach the mark and the fifth youngest overall.”

Doncic and the Lakers then fell to the Los Angeles Clippers, but the star ended the contest with another strong stat line of 32 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists.

He then finished the week with a notable performance in his second homecoming game against the Dallas Mavericks after being famously traded from the franchise nearly a year ago. In that six-point victory, he had 33 points, eight rebounds, and 11 assists.

“In the contest, Dončić reached 1,500 career regular season 3-pointers, becoming the youngest player in NBA history to do so,” the team added in the statement.

Doncic currently leads the NBA in scoring, while also being third in assists. His season averages of 33.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.7 assists helped earn him the honor of being named an All-Star starter, and he remains a top candidate for the MVP award and an All-NBA First-Team nod.

Lakers Trade Rumors

At the same time, Doncic continues to put in top-tier performances, the Lakers have been one of the most-mentioned teams in NBA trade rumors. They have been linked to Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks, but after his latest injury and a new report, signs point to them waiting until the summer to make a push for the 2021 Finals MVP.

In an interesting recent twist, the Lakers have been linked to Jonathan Kuminga of the Golden State Warriors. The two sides have had discussions about the disgruntled 23-year-old, and according to Evan Sidery, Los Angeles is willing to give up a few of their best assets in a deal.

“The Lakers and Warriors have conducted brief trade discussions involving Jonathan Kuminga,” Sidery wrote in a post on X. “Los Angeles appears willing to offer the expiring contracts of Gabe Vincent and Maxi Kleber alongside a 2032 2nd-round pick.”

He added that the Warriors have not shown interest in those particular assets.

The Lakers have been linked to a few other players in recent trade rumors, but at the moment, they are relatively restricted as it relates to building a big package for someone like Trey Murphy or Herb Jones of the New Orleans Pelicans, both of whom they’ve been eyeing for a while.

As for LeBron James, a recent report from insider Shams Charania indicates his future with the team is coming to an end. There was also a detailed article by Baxter Holmes of ESPN on his relationship with owner Jeanie Buss, and while that didn’t indicate any signs of the two sides continuing their time together, the league’s all-time scorer continues to brush off any noise about that becoming an issue.

The Lakers are 27-17 and fifth in the Western Conference, going 4-6 in their last ten games. Major concerns remain on their struggles on the defensive end of the floor, but with Doncic, James, and the soon-returning Austin Reaves, offense has barely been an issue for JJ Redick’s team this season.
