While it was going to be quite a ways down the road before Micah Rhodes ever donned the Crimson and Cream, this 1 still hurts for Oklahoma.
Rhodes, the nation’s No. 1 running back recruit for the Class of 2028, decommitted from Oklahoma on Wednesday.
“BREAKING: 5-Star runner Micah Rhodes, the No. 1 RB in Class of 2028, has decommitted from Oklahoma,” NFL reporter Aaron Wilson wrote on his official X account. “His original commitment was heavily influenced by former Sooners running backs coach DeMarco Murray, now Chiefs running backs coach. So, Rhodes is now reopening his recruitment and has multiple options with several of the top programs in the nation.”
Rhodes, 5-foot-10 and 185 pounds, was named a MaxPreps Sophomore All-American after he rushed for 172 carries for 1,307 yards and 21 touchdowns in 2025 and has 2,241 rushing yards and 31 touchdowns over his 1st 2 high school seasons.
It was a shock when Rhodes committed to Oklahoma on January 30.
“When you know you know,” Sports Illustrated’s Kendrick E. Johnson wrote after Rhodes’ commitment in January. “That’s the sentiment Micah Rhodes, the talented running back from Klein Oak High School in the Greater Houston area, stated as the main reason he is committing super early as a class of 2028 recruit. As the kid who has been getting offers since eighth grade and is currently ranked as the top running back for the 2028 class by multiple rankings systems sent shockwaves across the nation last night by verbally committing to take his talents to the University of Oklahoma.”
