The relationship between Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks has reached a critical point this season. Antetokounmpo was nearly traded at the deadline before the Bucks decided to shop him this offseason.
Tensions remained high after the NBPA urged the league to take a look into their player participation policy after ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that the Bucks are trying to force Antetokounmpo to sit out the remainder of the season.
“The Greek Freak” has been limited to just 36 games this season because of injuries. He was adamant about playing despite the Bucks being out of playoff contention.
However, the Bucks have ruled him out in their regular-season finale against the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday.
Doc Rivers Discusses Antetokounmpo’s Future

Ahead of Sunday’s game in Philadelphia, Bucks coach Doc Rivers appeared on The Dan Patrick Show and was asked about Antetokounmpo’s future in Milwaukee.
Rivers was put in a tough spot, but he still answered the question. He even hinted that the two-time MVP’s time with the Bucks could be coming to an end.
“It’s a tough one because he has done such a great job here in Milwaukee, right?” River said, via HoopsHype. “And yet he still wants to win a title, and clearly, we have to do a better job here with our roster to make that even look like a possibility.”
The Hall of Fame coach added, “If we can’t do that, then he’s going to look outward. And so, I think that’s a two-fold answer. I think one, if we had all the pieces here, I have no doubt he’d want to stay here. But we don’t, and so that puts him in a tough spot.”
The Bucks are indeed in a tough spot since they don’t have the assets to attract a potential second star to pair with Antetokounmpo. They were linked to Ja Morant before the trade deadline, but nothing materialized.
What About Rivers’ Future in Milwaukee?

According to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, the belief around the NBA is that this will be Rivers’ final season as the Bucks’ head coach. It’s unclear if he’ll be relieved of his duties or will get moved to a new position as part of the front office.
The drama between Antetokounmpo and the franchise is out of Rivers’ control, but the recent reports about what happened inside their locker room in March grabbed a lot of headlines.
Rivers reportedly told players in the locker room to Google his resume, which includes one NBA championship, many winning seasons, an NBA Coach of the Year Award and an induction to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame later this year.
But regardless of Siegel’s report, Rivers has hinted about stepping away from coaching and spending more time with his grandchildren.
