Mets’ Francisco Lindor Drops Truth Bomb on Brandon Nimmo Rumor

The New York Mets are still finding their footing early in the 2026 campaign, as evidenced by the fact that they are fresh off losing two out of three games to the lowly St. Louis Cardinals. After a busy offseason, the Mets have a different look to them, and while guys like Francisco Lindor are still leading the team, there are quite a few familiar faces who have found their way to new teams.

One guy who falls in that category is Brandon Nimmo, who was traded to the Texas Rangers over the offseason. After spending the first 10 years of his career with New York, it was somewhat surprising to see Nimmo get traded. Some reports indicated that a rumored rift between Lindor and Nimmo could have been the reason for this deal, but it sounds like that isn’t the case.

Francisco Lindor Denies Brandon Nimmo Rift

Lindor and Nimmo spent the past five seasons playing together in New York, with both guys emerging as key pieces of the team’s lineup. However, in an effort to rebalance the roster, the Mets sent Nimmo to the Rangers as part of a deal that brought Marcus Semien to town. With that, Lindor found himself with a new double-play partner, as Semien has slotted in alongside him at second base.

It was a bit of a surprise to see Nimmo get traded, but rumors swirling around him indicated that things weren’t great for him in the Mets clubhouse. At the center of this was a report that Lindor and Nimmo did not see eye-to-eye with each other due to their differing political beliefs. That quickly led fans to believe New York split these guys up by shipping Nimmo off to Texas.

Whatever the reason for the move may have been, Nimmo is playing for the Rangers, while Lindor is still leading the Mets’ lineup. However, Lindor has heard the rumors surrounding him and Nimmo, and he opted to put them to rest by revealing that he and Nimmo are close friends, even though they don’t play on the same team anymore.

“Nimmo and I are brothers,” Lindor said, per Jon Heyman of The New York Post. “I love him. He’s a great guy. He’s missed around here — good teammate, good person, good family man.”

The past couple of months have been surprisingly tough for Lindor. First, he missed out on the 2026 World Baseball Classic after he suffered a fractured hamate bone, and while he managed to get himself healthy in time for Opening Day, he’s struggled to begin the year for the Mets. Now, he has had to deal with these rumors revolving around his relationship with Nimmo, who isn’t even his teammate anymore.

The good news for Lindor is that the season is still very young, so while he has just a .143 batting average to his name through six games, there’s good reason to believe that, given what he’s accomplished throughout his career, he will be able to turn things around. New York will kick off a new four-game series against the San Francisco Giants on Thursday night, with first pitch scheduled for 9:45 p.m. ET.
