Matthew Stafford’s Wife Kelly Stafford Drops Retirement Clue

Former Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford almost made it to the big game with the Los Angeles Rams yet again, but the team fell to the Seattle Seahawks in a heartbreaking 31-27 loss.

Now, Stafford is in the news for his impending retirement decision. Former NFL quarterback and current NBC Sports analyst Chris Simms doesn’t think Stafford should retire yet.

“[The Rams]’re in the window, in a big-time way,” Simms said. “They’re here to stay for the next few years with the way their team is built. If I was Matthew Stafford and the way he’s playing, I certainly wouldn’t be thinking about retiring or anything like that.”

Of course, right after the game, he was asked about the loss and if he’ll be retiring after the 2025-26 season. “I can’t generalize six months of my life 10 minutes after a loss,” Stafford told reporters, according to ESPN. “So I appreciate the guys in this locker room a whole hell of a lot. Everybody that helped me and helped our team be the success that we were this year. And that’s all I’ll answer for you.”

Now, Stafford’s wife Kelly has shared some tidbits from the team’s NFC Championship appearance, it may be a clue on her support for Stafford holding off on retirement.

Kelly Stafford Shares Clips From NFC Championship

After the NFC game, Kelly took to Instagram to share some reels highlighting her husband. “Stafford making high difficulty throws look routine,” one post on her Instagram Story stated. The next post was her sharing the Rams’ thank you message to their fans after the game.

On her main page, she’s also shared plenty of clips from Stafford’s season with the Rams, including one with his children at the Rams and Seahawks game. In an earlier post, she joked, “Anyone else feel like the stress of these games is shaving years off your life?”

Honestly, this looks like a woman ready to watch her husband for at least one more season in the NFL. Of course, her posts could point either way, but this certainly seems like a supportive family ready to cheer on their man for one more year.

Do the Rams Want Matthew Stafford Back?

It does seems as if the Rams would welcome Stafford back. What’s not to love, after what he did this season?

“I love our group. The finality of all it, didn’t ever really expect this,” McVay said during a postgame news conference. “We came here with the expectation to win. We had our chances. They made their plays. It was a great back-and-forth by two great teams. Just a couple of critical errors that ended up costing us.”

He added, “But love this team. It’s one of my all-time favorites. “I’ll be honest with you, nothing but gratitude for these guys. Nothing but respect for the Seahawks. I’m pretty numb. I think the finality of all of it when you don’t allow yourself to even think about anything other than advancing.”

Finally, McVay said, I felt like we were going to be the team on that podium and we weren’t, and you give Seattle the credit. But I love this group and I’m never really short on words and I am right now. It’s tough. But this is sports and you’ve got to be able to deal with it.”
