Kyle Williams Sparks Fresh Stefon Diggs Buzz With Jersey Number Update

After spending his rookie season wearing the No. 18, Kyle Williams was set to change to No. 8, taking the jersey number previously worn by wide receiver Stefon Diggs.

However, in a new report from ESPN’s Mike Reiss, Williams will now be staying at No. 18.

And with that, it’s fueling an entirely new wave of speculation from New England Patriots fans, thinking that a reunion with Diggs could be even more so a possibility.

The Patriots released Diggs in March despite the receiver being quarteback Drake Maye’s top target last season, finishing with 85 receptions for 1,013 yards during the regular season, along with 14 receptions for 110 yards in the playoffs. He was New England’s first receiver with over 1,000 yards in a season since 2019.

However, a large part of the reason he was not signed after his release from the Patri9ots was due to his off-field matters, as Diggs went to trial after being accused of assault by his former personal chef. However, the receiver was found not guilty on May 5.

Fans React To Kyle Williams’ Jersey Decision

“Keep that #8 available. I have a feeling,” one person wrote.

“Feeding the Diggs reunion flames,” another person commented.

“KYLE WILLIAMS NOT CHANGING HIS NUMBER? 👀,” someone posted.

“I hope everyone hung onto their Stefon Diggs No. 8 jerseys,” Barstool’s Jerry Thornton said.

“Diggs gets cleared and suddenly Kyle Williams isn’t changing his number?,” a fan shared.

“Number 8 back to being available….GIMME DIGGS,” another fan stated.

Kyle Williams recently took over the #8 jersey from Stefon Diggs. Now he’s switching back and sticking with #18. Could this be a sign that Stefon Diggs is making a comeback?,” one fan expressed.

Many others simply shared photos and gifs of the wide receiver from his time with New England.

And with that, fans were going crazy for the idea that the Patriots could have a wide receiver room composed of A.J. Brown, Stefon Diggs, and Romeo Doubs, as well as Kyle Williams, Mack Hollins, and DeMario Douglas. Kayshon Boutte’s name is not listed as many expect him to be a top trade candidate if the Brown deal is made.

Patriots Players Make It Clear They Want Stefon Diggs Back

Following the end of his trial where he was found not guilty, Diggs shared a message on Instagram, posted a compilation video of his top plays from last season.

“This is not an opinion-based sport, so here are the numbers. I played 52% of the snaps and finished with 85 catches for 1,045 yards coming off an ACL,’ Diggs wrote. “Where we going? 🫢🫱🏾”

And in the comments, many of his former Patriots teammates commented, all encouraging him to return to Foxborough.

“To the pats,” cornerback Christian Gonzalez posted.

“🤞🏾,” running back Rhamondre Stevenson shared.

“One of dem ones🦅,” Douglas commented.

“Beast,” cornerback Kobee Minor stated.

“Stamped,” Williams said.

“That boi 🖤,” cornerback Marcellas Dial expressed.

“Bring yo (expletive) back,” linebacker Bradyn Swinson shared.

“👀,” defensive tackle Milton Williams wrote.

And with that Diggs, commented back at Williams, adding another eyeball emoji.

With that, plus Williams’ jersey decision, this speculation isn’t going anywhere until he reveals his next home.
