Joliet man charged in fatal shooting of Kenwood maintenance man last month

A Joliet man has been arrested in the fatal shooting of an apartment building maintenance worker in Kenwood last month, according to Chicago police.

Gaddis Price Jr., 38, is accused of first-degree murder and felony possession of a controlled substance, police said.

On April 2, police responded about 5:35 p.m. to a person shot at the building in the 4500 block of South Drexel Boulevard. Officers found Alonzo Johnson, 42, in the lobby, shot in his left hand, right shoulder and chest, according to a police report.

Officers spoke to a witness who said a building resident had argued with Johnson, then returned to the lobby and shot the maintenance worker, the report said.

Johnson, who lived in the same block as the apartment building, was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition. He died there at 8:06 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Price Jr. is expected in court Thursday.
