Ex-Browns QBs to be Featured After Being Discarded by Cleveland

Former Cleveland Browns quarterbacks Joe Flacco and Baker Mayfield will be featured in the Netflix show Quarterback.

The docuseries has featured 10 NFL quarterbacks across three seasons since its 2023 debut. Season 1 followed Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota through the 2022 NFL season, with Mahomes winning Super Bowl LVII.

Season 2, released in 2025, tracked Joe Burrow, Jared Goff and Cousins through the 2024-25 campaign. Season 3, premiering July 14, features Mayfield, Flacco, Jayden Daniels, and Cam Ward.

Produced by NFL Films, Omaha Productions and 2PM Productions, the series gives viewers unprecedented access to quarterbacks on and off the field throughout a season.

Baker Mayfield Still Salty About Browns Exit

Flacco and Mayfield are at very different points in their careers. But both have something in common from their time with the Browns.

Mayfield was the No. 1 overall pick of Cleveland in 2018 and spent four seasons with the franchise. His time in Cleveland didn’t end well. The Browns acquired Deshaun Watson in a blockbuster trade and moved Mayfield to the Carolina Panthers ahead of the 2022 season.

“The respect thing is, like, it’s all going to be, like, a personal opinion. I feel disrespected, 100 percent. Because I was told one thing, and they completely did another. And that’s what I’m in the middle of right now. And you know what? I got my taste of it because I had four different head coaches in four years, bunch of offensive coordinators,” Mayfield said of the trade. “I really, truly, honestly have no regrets of my time in Cleveland of what I tried to give that place. And true Clevelanders and true Browns fans know that.”

Mayfield is now firmly established in Tampa Bay, where he has made multiple Pro Bowls. He threw for 3,693 yards and 26 touchdowns last season.

Flacco signed with the Browns in 2023. He helped engineer a remarkable late-season run that briefly turned Cleveland into a playoff contender. After a year away, he returned last season and won the job in training camp.

After the Browns started 1-4, the Browns traded Flacco within the division to the Cincinnati Bengals. Flacco re-signed with the Bengals this offseason, proving to be a capable backup for Burrow. Flacco will be featured navigating yet another new chapter at age 41.

Meanwhile, the Cleveland Browns still have an unresolved quarterback situation. The room includes Watson — who missed all of last season — Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel and rookie Taylen Green. As it stands, Watson has the edge for the starting job, per Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com.

“Deshaun Watson emerged from the Browns’ voluntary minicamp with an edge over Shedeur Sanders in the two-man quarterback competition — and has the inside track to be named the Browns QB1,” Cabot reported in April. “The Browns have said that their quarterback decision will be based on performance alone as opposed to development and a potential high pick in next year’s QB-rich draft class, and if the season started tomorrow, Watson would be the starter.”
