Jaguars Camp Notes: Trevor Lawrence, Offense Bounce Back on Day 7

Trevor Lawrence needed just 24 hours to shake off a rough Day 6 practice. Getting pushed around by Anthony Campanile’s defense served as a loud enough wake-up call, prompting Lawrence to snap right back to form with his sharpest, most accurate session of camp.

As OnSI’s John Shipley noted, the offense completely eclipsed the defense during Thursday’s shorter session at the Miller Electric Center, with Lawrence pushing chunk gains downfield without giving up a single turnover-worthy play.

“I came away from the practice thinking it was one of the best days the offense has had in training camp so far, with Trevor Lawrence looking especially accurate and impressive,” Shipley mentioned.

Coming out for Thursday’s padded session, Lawrence’s footwork was noticeably calmer, his eyes were disciplined, and his processing sped up, all of which were the core problems in his Day 6 performance.

Rather than pressing for big plays, he took what the defense gave him early, establishing rhythm with quick, decisive throws.

“I had Lawrence completing passes of 20+ yards to the following players on Thursday: Brian Thomas Jr., Jakobi Meyers, Parker Washington, Brenton Strange, and Tim Jones. He had no turnover-worthy plays, and he also did not have any big misses like the offense had in the last few days,” Shipley further noted.

That’s the clean tape Jacksonville was waiting for.

Beyond the 20-yard boundary, Lawrence completed 11 of his 13 attempts according to ESPN Radio’s Mia O’Brien. It shows that Lawrence wasn’t just relying on lucky vertical shots; he consistently stayed on schedule and avoided negative plays.

But that’s not the real test for Lawrence. Everyone knows he can spin it and shred a defense on a Tuesday.

The real challenge this season is stringing these practices together and stacking clean days throughout August so he can walk into Week 1 with real confidence.

“Lawrence was able to hit receivers in stride at different areas of the field all practice, layering throws to the second- and third-levels of the defense and sharing the wealth,” Shipley further added.

Consistency a Top Goal for Lawrence

“Thursday’s version of Lawrence looked the most like Lawrence’s red-hot offseason performances from the spring. It wasn’t a flawless day by any means, but he was consistently making the right decisions and putting the ball in a good spot for his receiver to make a play, whether after the catch or at the catch point.”

Building on that consistency is on top of Lawrence’s to-do list for this season despite finishing fifth on the MVP list in 2025.

“I’d say just the consistency of it,” Lawrence said earlier this year on Day 1 of offseason camp.

“That’s the challenge is doing it every week, and just excited for that opportunity,” he added.

Those daily habits are about to get their first true stress test. With the Teal & White mock scrimmage on deck and joint practices with the Panthers and Buccaneers approaching, the environment is about to get much more physical.

Thursday showed that Lawrence can hit the reset button after a bad practice. Now, the Jaguars need to see him carry that exact control into live game settings.
