Former Seahawks QB Announces Retirement at 28 Years Old

Quarterback Jaren Hall is ending his football playing career.

Just a little more than three years after getting drafted in the fifth round, Hall announced his retirement through an Instagram post Wednesday.

In the post, Hall expressed how grateful he was of the opportunity compete in the sport he loved most.

“What I’ll carry most isn’t the milestones, but the people — teammates, coaches, family, and a community that supported me every step of the way,” wrote Hall.

“My heart is full as I close this chapter and finish my football career. I’m thankful to everyone who’s been part of the journey.

“The game has given me more than I could ever give back.”

Hall last appeared in an NFL regular season game during 2023. He played three games for the Minnesota Vikings, starting two of them. Hall completed 13 of 20 passes for 168 yards. He had no touchdowns and one interception.

The quarterback went 1-1 as a starter.

Hall never played for the Seattle Seahawks during the regular season. But he spent part of the 2024 campaign on the team’s practice squad.

During December 2024, the Seahawks promoted Hall to their active roster multiple times to serve as the team’s emergency QB3.

The Seahawks released Hall on April 29 last year. That was the last time the quarterback was on an NFL roster.

After not getting another NFL opportunity for more than a year after his Seahawks release, Hall signed with the Birmingham Stallions in the UFL. But that stint was also short. After a couple weeks, the Stallions removed Hall from their roster.

The quarterback didn’t sign with another UFL team after that before announcing his retirement.

Hall played quarterback at BYU in college. He also played on the BYU baseball team for two seasons.

“Sports have been woven into nearly every part of my life — they’ve challenged me, humbled me, shaped my faith, introduced me to lifelong friendships, and given me experiences I never could have imagined,” Hall also wrote in his Instagram post. “From growing up in this community, to representing my hometown, to having the opportunity to play in the NFL, it has all been a blessing.”

Hall grew up and attended high school in Utah.

At BYU, Hall served as the backup for 2021 NFL Draft No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson. During the 2019 season, Hall became the first black starting quarterback in BYU history.

Hall appeared in 31 games at BYU. He posted 6,174 passing yards with 52 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Hall averaged 8.6 yards per pass while completing 65.2% of his attempts.
