Field Set for Truist Championship as Big Names Withdraw

With the Truist Championship set to begin this week, several notable names are already making headlines around the PGA Tour’s sixth Signature Event.

As fans await Rory McIlroy’s return to the course following his strong back-to-back performance at The Masters, a handful of top players have chosen to withdraw from Quail Hollow Club.

Here’s a look at who’s in, and who’s out, at the North Carolina event.

Who’s Out at Truist Championship

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler will skip the Truist Championship after a runner-up finish at the Cadillac Championship. He is likely choosing to rest during a demanding stretch on Tour.

Joining him on the sidelines is Collin Morikawa. The 29-year-old has been one of the most consistent players on Tour this season, recording five top-10 finishes in 2026. Morikawa has been putting on the impressive performance despite managing injuries this season, including a back issue.

While no official reason for the withdrawal was provided, it may be a precautionary move to avoid further aggravation or to allow his body some rest. Andrew Putnam will take Morikawa’s place in the field.

Who’s In

As of now, the spotlight falls on McIlroy. He returns to competition looking to carry momentum into another Signature Event, one where he has historically done well. He headlines a deep field that features many of the Tour’s biggest names.

Among them is Cameron Young, who comes in hot following his third career victory at the Cadillac Championship. After beginning his PGA Tour career with 93 starts without a win, Young has now secured three titles in his last 14 starts.

Young took home his maiden win at the 2025 Wyndham Championship in August. He then took home another first place finish at the 2026 THE PLAYERS Championship which he followed up with another victory just a few weeks later at the Cadillac Championship. His recent performances indicate a significant breakthrough for the player.

Other notable players in the field include Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, and Viktor Hovland, showing the strength of this Signature Event.

With a $20 million purse on the line, the Truist Championship once again brings together one of the most competitive fields of the season. Even with a few high-profile absences, the tournament at Quail Hollow is set up to deliver another competitive week on the PGA Tour.
