Fever, Catilin Clark Get Good News Day Before 2026 WNBA Draft

The Indiana Fever’s roster is rounding into form.

The team, which finished 24-20 and made it to the semifinal round of the WNBA playoffs despite being without franchise superstar Caitlin Clark for most of the season, has made some strong moves over the last few days.

Indiana returned the bulk of its playoff roster and possible championship-contending team, and if Clark and a few other key role players stay healthy, the Fever are primed to make some noise in the 2026 postseason.

Fever Retain Important Piece From Last Season

According to ESPN’s Alexa Phillippou, the Fever have reached a deal to re-sign guard and Clark protector Sophie Cunningham.

“Free agent Sophie Cunningham has agreed to a one-year deal to return to the Indiana Fever, sources told ESPN on Sunday,” Phillippou wrote.

“Cunningham joins guards Kelsey Mitchell and Lexie Hull as free agents who are coming back to the Fever following their run to the semifinals last year. Indiana — who has young stars Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark already under contract — has also added newcomers Monique Billings and Ty Harris in free agency.”

Cunningham was a key contributor last season, especially when Clark went down with a number of ailments that limited her to just 13 games. Cunningham averaged 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.0 steals per game across 30 appearances before suffering a season-ending torn right MCL.

The 29-year-old won over the hearts of Fever last July when she was ejected in the fourth quarter of a game against the Phoenix Mercury for getting into a dust-up with guard Jacy Sheldon.

Earlier in the game, Sheldon was hit with a flagrant foul after poking Clark in the eye. Cunningham didn’t let the behavior slide, and when she saw an opportunity the following quarter, she grabbed Sheldon by the head in the paint and flung her out of bounds.

The moment made Cunningham a hero in the eyes of Fever fans, who promptly sold out her jersey the following day on the WNBA shop.

Fever Make Several Other Roster Moves

Bringing Cunningham back was just the latest in a slew of moves the Fever have pulled off since the start of free agency.

First, the team re-signed star guard and 2025 leading scorer Kelsey Mitchell to a three-year, $1 million supermax contract. A 3-time WNBA All-Star and an All-WNBA first-team selection, Mitchell led the Fever with a career-high 20.2 points per game last season, while chipping in 3.4 assists and 1.8 rebounds per contest.

Indiana also re-signed depth guard and Clark’s close friend Lexie Hull, who averaged a career-best 7.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.2 steals per game last season.

The Fever also added 29-year-old forward Monique Billings from the Golden State Valkyries. A defensive standout during her time at UCLA (she was a two-time Pac-12 All-Defensive Team selection), Billings averaged 7.3 points and 4.5 rebounds per game last year.
