There is a new leader in town for the Atlanta Falcons. Kevin Stefanski is setting the tone during the team’s offseason workout program.
“Per NFL guidelines, clubs with a new head coach may begin offseason workout programs two weeks ahead of those with a returning staff. In phase one of the program, teams are permitted to conduct meetings in their facilities as well as workouts and physical rehabilitation overseen by the team’s strength and conditioning staff.” Will McFadden wrote in an Atlanta Falcons article.
The Atlanta Falcons hired Kevin Stefanski on January 17. Stefanski is a two-time coach of the year with the Cleveland Browns.
Stefanski Building ‘Strong Foundation’ in Offseason Program
With a talented roster and a new coaching staff, Kevin Stefanski is looking forward to getting to work.
“So much of the offseason program, as you guys know, is just building foundational knowledge,” Kevin Stefanski said in an Atlanta Falcons article. “That’s scheme, that’s the X’s and O’s, but that’s also a foundational knowledge of our techniques, of our fundamentals. Foundational knowledge of our identity as an offense, as a defense, as special teams. So, I’d say a lot of the offseason program is about building a strong foundation.”
In a busy offseason for the Falcons, the team has added multiple players and coaches to their squad along with a new general manager. Stefanski pointed out that the offseason program is great for the players to get to know the new scheme and condition their bodies.
“I think there’s great benefits to being in a program where your coaches can coach you, where your teammates can be around you and can push you,” Stefanski said in the Atlanta Falcons article. “We, over the course of this 10-week program, we want to cover a lot of ground. That’s both schematically, but more importantly, it’s from a physical strength and conditioning [standpoint].”
Though the team is off to a great start in the offseason, there are still questions on who the starting quarterback will be for the Falcons. Kevin Stefanski and Offensive Coordinator Tommy Rees will have some decisions to make.
Pending Atlanta Falcons Quarterback Competition
Tua Tagovailoa was signed by the Atlanta Falcons on March 9, 2026. On March 24th, the Atlanta Falcons signed veteran quarterback Trevor Siemian. The Atlanta Falcons made these moves to set up a quarterback competition with Tagovailoa, Siemian, and Michael Penix Jr.
Michael Penix Jr. is expected to be available to compete for the starting position in 2026. Penix Jr. entered the 2025 season as the starter for the Atlanta Falcons.
Before Michael Penix Jr. went down with an ACL injury, he completed 60.1 percent of his passes while throwing for 1,982 yards during the 2025 season. He had nine total touchdowns and 3 interceptions.
Being a two-time coach of the year, Kevin Stefanski can be trusted with making the right decision at quarterback. With his track record, Atlanta Falcons fans can have hope in a successful 2026 season.
“Coaches are excited,” Stefanski said in the Falcons article. “They’re doing a great job in the classroom right now. We’re very lucky to get to start two weeks early. We’ve got a jumpstart on everybody as a new staff, and we’re going to take advantage of that.”
