Eagles Insider Made Bold Claim About 9-Catch Playmaker at Camp

Training camp for the Philadelphia Eagles is showing some players in both good and bad light, but one is having a great camp.

To no one’s surprise, the Eagles’ wide receivers are getting the most attention around them since it is so new. There are four new receivers who are expected to compete for roster spots. Those include Dontayvion Wicks, Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, Elijah Moore, and rookie Makai Lemon.

What has been grabbing more headlines is an Eagles player who broke out in training camp last year and is having an even better one in 2026. He might even be one of the best players at the position.

SportsRadio 94 WIP’s Eliot Shorr-Parks talked about who has stood out to him as the top three receivers on the Eagles. He had DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks as the top two. His number three receiver, though, was Darius Cooper.

“Darius Cooper, I think, is a really interesting prospect. Like, he’s got long arms, he has muscle on him. I think he’s faster than, uh, he’s given credit for. He had a really nice contested catch today. And one thing he does, it does actually remind me a lot of A.J. He’s got really strong hands. Like, a throw today over the middle, it was contested, probably 10 yards, and he not only like held on to the ball, but he held it like through the ground too. So, um, he’s got like a lot of really appealing physical traits as a receiver. And he literally looks like A.J. He does, and they’re very close.”

Cooper was a standout at training camp last year as an undrafted rookie out of Tarleton State. After catching a touchdown against the Cincinnati Bengals in the preseason, he earned a roster spot. He finished his rookie season with 9 receptions for 92 yards.

The trending topic during training camp has been how good Cooper has been doing. It was the same thing last year, but this time, it’s as much of a surprise to Eagles fans.

Last year, Cooper was seen not working on the developmental period with the rookies and young players who need it. Instead, he was catching passes from Jalen Hurts and building chemistry with him,

Hurts has been very high on Cooper, mentioning him a few times for how good he’s been. It’s clear that the franchise quarterback is a big fan of Cooper.

To get the A.J. Brown comparison is only good news as well. While Cooper isn’t going to replace him, knowing that someone on the team is like Brown will help his chances to make the team.

There’s still about four weeks left in training camp, and a lot can change before then. The Eagles are starting to see Cooper, though, as almost a lock to make the 53-man roster.
