Driver shot on Berkeley freeway on-ramp

BERKELEY — A suspect is being sought in the Friday shooting of a man driving on an on-ramp to Interstate 80, authorities said.

The man’s condition was not available Monday.

The shooting happened about 4:49 p.m. Friday on the Ashby Avenue on-ramp to eastbound I-80, the California Highway Patrol said.

The shooter was apparently in another vehicle, the CHP said.

The wounded man was able to drive a short distance before crashing his silver Toyota Camry into a guard rail, the CHP said. A passenger in the vehicle was not injured.

The CHP said a motive for the shooting is under investigation.

Detailed descriptions of the shooter and vehicle they were in have not been released.
