Before Tuesday’s game, the Tigers revealed the latest update on Justin Verlander.

The two-time World Series Champion last pitched in a game on March 30.

Chris McCosky of The Detroit News wrote: “AJ Hinch said Zach McKinstry (hip-ab strain) is in Lakeland doing light baseball activity. …Justin Verlander (hip) is scheduled to throw a bullpen before the game Wednesday”

The news clearly shows that Verlander is trending in the right direction.

He is coming off a series where he did not travel with the team to Boston.

Evan Petzold of Detroit Free Press wrote (on April 17): “Justin Verlander (left hip injury) was planning to travel with the #Tigers to Boston, but he ended up not making the trip.”

Verlander is far from his prime at 43.

That said, fans were happy they got to see him re-sign with the franchise that turned him into a superstar during the first 13.5 years of his career.

Last season, the future Hall of Famer went 4-11 with a 3.85 ERA in 29 games for the San Francisco Giants.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan wrote (on February 10, 2026): “Right-hander Justin Verlander and the Detroit Tigers are in agreement on a one-year contract. Verlander, 43 next week, returns to the team with which he spent his first 13 seasons and whose hat he’ll wear in the Hall of Fame.”

Tigers Right Now

With their loss on Tuesday, the Tigers dropped to 12-12 in 24 games, which has them as the third-place team in the American League Central.

They are 8-2 in the ten games they have played at home in Detroit.

Following two more games against the Brewers, the Tigers will visit the Cincinnati Reds on Friday in Ohio.

They last made the World Series during the 2012 season (when Verlander was also on the team).
