Vikings Hit With Strong GM Message Involving Rob Brzezinski

The Minnesota Vikings will remain busy after the 2026 NFL Draft, as the team will begin its search for a general manager, a position currently occupied by Rob Brzezinski, the team’s executive vice president of football operations, on an interim basis.

After Minnesota decided to fire Kwesi Adofo-Mensah in January, the Vikings opted to hold off on a search to fill the position until after the draft, which begins on April 23.

The draft will end after Day 3 on April 25, and that’s when the Vikings’ search for a new general manager will begin. Minnesota Star Tribune’s Chip Scoggins shared his thoughts on the situation, which will pick up steam in a few days, and even floated the idea of Brzezinski keeping the job permanently.

“I do think harmony is a big quality for the Wilfs,” Scoggins said on the April 21 edition of “Purple Daily.” “I think they value that. They talk about it a lot: Collaboration, different departments getting along and not having dysfunction, and I want to address this thought that Rob’s not a football guy.

“You’ve got to have a football guy in there. He’s worked for that organization for however many years. You think he hasn’t sat in a lot of personnel meetings? He has. He’s in there all the time.

“To say he’s not a football guy, maybe he didn’t play in the NFL, maybe he doesn’t come from a coaching or scouting background, but it’s not like he hasn’t been around football for the last two decades and knows what works.

“I think he does a good job of bringing the personnel and coaching sides together because Rob has a good personality, and everybody likes and respects him in that building. I absolutely think it could work.”

Could Kevin O’Connell Want Rob Brzezinski to Stay as GM?

“You could just tell by the way O’Connell talked how much he appreciates the way Rob leads. I guarantee if the Wilfs go to him, he’s going to say, ‘I like Rob a lot. It worked. This whole process was smooth. We got along. He did what you want in terms of collaboration.’ That’s not to say the Wilfs aren’t going to interview other people.

“I assume they will, and they should. But I think you know what the bar is. That person has to beat this. In terms of being a football guy or not, I just think that’s overblown. If he gets the job, I don’t think that’s going to be a huge factor.”

Vikings Insider Gives Update on GM Search

In an article published on April 2, Kevin Seifert of ESPN provided an update on the team’s search and whether the Vikings have a clear candidate for this job.

“But Wilf also laid out a process that would cast a wide net, including hiring a third party to help cull the list of candidates, Seifert wrote. “A small group of existing staffers will assist in the process. That is expected to include O’Connell, who has a strong relationship with Brzezinski, as well as chief operating officer Andrew Miller, who led the committee that hired Adofo-Mensah.

“Wilf said the process would be ‘ownership-driven, but the degree to which O’Connell or Miller play a leading role could well tip the scales in the Wilfs’ final decision. Regardless, many NFL teams enter a GM or coach search with a preferred candidate in mind. In this case, the Vikings clearly do not have one.”
