The Detroit Pistons are making a roster move following their Monday night loss against the Orlando Magic.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, they are adding a center prospect to the main roster.

The Pistons make their roster move following a lopsided 123-107 loss against the Magic on the road. With that defeat, the Pistons dropped to 57-22 on the season.

With the regular season running out, Smith brings some depth to the table.

Tolu Smith Gets A Promotion

Tolu Smith has signed a standard contract with the Detroit Pistons for the first time in his NBA career.

The 25-year-old started his NCAA run in 2018 at Western Kentucky. In 2020, he transferred to Mississippi State. Although Smith was eligible to get drafted, he wasn’t selected during the 2024 NBA Draft.

Smith’s professional career started with the Motor City Cruise of the NBA G League. He landed his first two-way contract with the Pistons in January 2025.

Last season, Smith had a chance to appear in one game for the Pistons. He scored 14 points and came down with eight rebounds.

This year, Smith saw his role with the main roster expand a bit. He appeared in 13 games, seeing the court for 10.1 minutes per game. Smith produced 3.9 points per game (51.5% from the field). He also averaged 3.5 rebounds and blocked 0.5 shots per game.

The Pistons’ season concludes with the rest of the NBA this upcoming Sunday.

With a guaranteed run in the NBA Playoffs as the top seed, the Pistons still anticipate playing a lot of games. Smith is likely to garner some playing time this week, as the Pistons need some of their core guys to have limited minutes or rest nights.
