Colts WR Alec Pierce Opens Up on Daniel Jones’ $88 Million Contract Extension

The Indianapolis Colts managed to thread a difficult needle this offseason. After starting 7-1 last season and leading the AFC behind the electric play of guys like QB Daniel Jones and WR Alec Pierce, the Colts limped to an 8-9 finish and missed the playoffs. That was due in no small part to Jones fracturing his tibia and tearing his Achilles, ending his season.

Both Jones and Pierce were set to be unrestricted free agents this offseason, and the Colts wanted to retain them both. But they had a difficult task in doing so, as Jones commanded a big contract and yet Indianapolis didn’t want to be stuck with an inflated deal for a player coming off such a serious injury. Plus, Pierce was set to break the bank in free agency himself, and keeping both players was the Colts’ top priority.

Well, the Colts can officially say “mission accomplished.” They used the transition tag on Jones initially to make sure he didn’t hit free agency before signing him to a two-year, $88 million extension to keep him in Indianapolis. Just as free agency opened last week, the Colts also locked up Pierce on a four-year, $114 million extension as well, ensuring the two Indianapolis stars remain together for the foreseeable future.

“Yeah [Jones’ extension] was huge for me,” Pierce said on Good Morning Football Wednesday morning. “That was something that we were stressing with the Colts: it’s like, it’s going to be really hard to get a deal done until we see that Daniel is locked in and being the quarterback there.”

“He’s a guy I believe in tremendously,” Pierce continued. “I think if you look at how our team was operating in that first half of the season, you know, the quarterback [was] really driving that offense. He was a huge, huge part of that. I’m excited to be back here with him, I think it’s only up from here. Keep on building on what we had last year and just keep on getting better.”

Pierce had a breakout season in 2025 with Jones throwing him the ball — for the first half of the season, at least. He totaled 47 receptions for 1,003 yards and six touchdowns, leading the NFL for the second season in a row in yards per reception at 21.3.

The Indianapolis Colts Still Have Work to Do on Defense

With Jones and Pierce back in the fold, the Colts should once again have one of the most explosive offenses in the league. Defense is another story, however, as Indianapolis’ depth got ravaged in free agency. They’ve done work to rebuild their defensive line, but linebacker and safety still stand out as major needs.

What makes that extra difficult for the Colts is that they don’t have their first-round pick in this draft after trading it to the Jets. In the second round, some potential targets for Indianapolis include Cincinnati LB Jake Golday, Texas LB Anthony Hill Jr., Texas Tech LB Jacob Rodriguez, and USC S Kamari Ramsey.
