Steve Spagnuolo Hall of Fame Honor Recognizes Career Achievement

Springfield College confirmed that Spagnuolo will be one of six alumni inducted into its Athletic Hall of Fame as part of the 2026 class. The ceremony took place on April 11 and celebrates individuals who made significant contributions to the school’s athletic tradition.

Spagnuolo, a member of the Class of 1982, played wide receiver during his time at Springfield. He was named the school’s Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 1982 before beginning a coaching career that has spanned more than four decades.

His résumé includes time with multiple NFL franchises, including the Kansas City Chiefs, New York Giants, St. Louis Rams, New Orleans Saints, Baltimore Ravens, and Philadelphia Eagles.

Springfield College’s Executive Director of Athletics, Dr. Craig Poisson, praised Spagnuolo’s legacy.

“I think he is perhaps the greatest defensive mind in the history of the National Football League,” Poisson said to The Springfield Student.

Spags Chiefs Success Adds to Hall of Fame Legacy

Spagnuolo’s NFL career includes multiple milestones that contributed to his Hall of Fame recognition. As of 2025, he is the only coordinator in league history to win four Super Bowls and appear in seven. He is also the only coordinator to win championships with two different franchises — the Giants and the Chiefs.

One of his most notable performances came during the 2007 season with the New York Giants. That defense led the NFL in sacks and recorded five sacks against Tom Brady in Super Bowl XLII, helping secure a championship victory.

Since joining the Chiefs in 2019, Spagnuolo has continued that success. The team has posted an 83–25 record during that span and reached three consecutive Super Bowls from LVII to LIX. The Chiefs also became one of eight franchises in NFL history to win back-to-back championships during that run.

Springfield College Hall of Fame Class Includes Standout Athletes

Spagnuolo headlines a Hall of Fame class that includes several accomplished Springfield College alumni across multiple sports.

Marisa Clapp ’04 and Nick Guerrette ’00 are being recognized for their success in track and field and cross country. Both athletes were consistent performers during competitive stretches for their programs and contributed at a high level in conference competition.

Damian Larkins ’01 is also part of the class after competing in both football and track and field.

Jackie Moscardelli ’12 earned a 2026 induction for her work in women’s soccer and women’s lacrosse, where she competed as a multi-sport athlete.

Nick Porillo ’76 rounds out the group, recognized for his accomplishments in wrestling and his impact on the program during his time at the school.

“All of these people, in addition to what they’ve done either after they left Springfield or what they did while they were here at Springfield, lived our mission,” Poisson said. “It just fits. I think this is another remarkable class for the Springfield College Athletics Hall of Fame.”
