Another former Denver Broncos assistant coach developed under Sean Payton is climbing the NFL ladder.Â
As Sports Illustrated noted, the Baltimore Ravens finalized the hiring of Declan Doyle as their new offensive coordinator.Â
Itâs the latest example of Paytonâs influence continuing to ripple across the league.
Doyleâs rise has been rapid. Just 13 months ago, he was the Broncosâ tight ends coach.
Now, at 29, heâll be calling plays for two-time MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson as the Ravens reshape their offense under new head coach Jesse Minter.
Sean Paytonâs Broncos Coaching Tree Keeps Growing
Doyle spent five seasons working under Payton, including two years as the Broncosâ tight ends coach from 2023-24 and three seasons as an offensive assistant with the New Orleans Saints from 2019-21.Â
Payton first brought Doyle into the NFL in 2019 after spotting him as a young assistant at Iowa.Â
Since then, Doyle has quietly built a reputation as a fast-rising offensive mind, culminating in his one-year stint as the Bearsâ offensive coordinator in 2025.Â
Under Ben Johnson, with Doyle serving as OC, Chicagoâs offense finished top 10 in total yards, points per game, and third-down efficiency.Â
Caleb Williams took a major step forward in his second year as well.Â
That production, paired with Doyleâs background under Payton and Johnson, helped accelerate his jump to a play-calling role in Baltimore.
For Broncos fans, itâs one more example of how Paytonâs Denver staff has become a launching pad for coaches around the league.
What Doyleâs Move Means for Davis Webb and Denver
Doyleâs departure to Baltimore also quietly reshapes Denverâs internal coaching picture.
Before the Ravens landed Doyle, quarterbacks coach Davis Webb had been viewed by league insiders as a potential option for Baltimore at OC.Â
That door is now closed.Â
Webb has also withdrawn his name from the Raidersâ head coaching search.Â
With Doyle off the board and Webb continuing to decline outside opportunities, momentum continues to build toward the Broncos promoting Webb internally as their next offensive coordinator.Â
His return would give Webb another season working directly under Sean Payton while continuing to play a central role in weekly game planning and in-game communication.
Webb has become instrumental in Bo Nixâs rapid development, helping simplify the offense and allowing the young quarterback to play with confidence and control.
According to DNVR’s Zac Stevens, the Broncos have now satisfied the Rooney Rule requirements.Â
This clears the way for the team to officially hire an offensive coordinator at any time.
Many around the Broncos believe that hire is likely to be Davis Webb.
