BREAKING: Jaguars Sign Former No. 1 Overall Pick to Massive $110 Million Extension

The Jacksonville Jaguars have just locked up a key cornerstone piece of the future to a massive contract extension. Former No. 1 overall pick Travon Walker, a dynamic edge rusher, just signed a four-year, $110 million extension with $77 million in total guarantees and $50 million guaranteed at signing, per his agency Elite Loyalty Sports.

The No. 1 overall pick in 2022, Walker had a strong rookie campaign with 49 tackles, four sacks, a forced fumble, an interception, and two passes defensed. He had a breakout season in 2023 with 52 tackles, 10 sacks, a fumble recovery, and two passes defensed, following that up in 2024 with 61 tackles, 11 sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and a pass defensed. In 2025, he had 38 tackles, four sacks, and two passes defensed.

Re-signing Walker to such a massive extension is a good payday for the former Georgia Bulldog, but it also keeps continuity on defense for the Jaguars. Josh Hines-Allen is one of the better pass rushers in the NFL, and now he and Walker will continued to be partnered up for the foreseeable future.

Hines-Allen, Walker, and DT Arik Armstead are the best pass rushers Jacksonville employs. They didn’t really have a replacement plan in place for Walker should he walk, and he was entering the final season of his rookie deal in 2026. Locking him up long-term provides a lot of security for the Jaguars as they look to repeat as AFC South champions and this time, advance in the playoffs.

The biggest hole on Jacksonville’s defense now resides at linebacker, after Devin Lloyd left for Carolina in free agency. Lloyd had a massive breakout season in 2025, becoming one of the most elite lockdown coverage linebackers in the league and making the Jaguars defense a no-fly zone over the middle of the field. With him gone, the Jaguars will have to look elsewhere for answers.

What’s Next for the Jacksonville Jaguars?

After trading away their 2026 first-round pick to the Browns to move up and select Travis Hunter at No. 2 overall in the 2025 draft, the Jaguars have limited ammunition to add to their roster through top-end draft assets. Still, they have four top-100 picks and 11 picks in total, and should be able to add an infusion of youth to their roster — if not trade some of those picks for more desirable assets, if they choose.

It’s a strong linebacker class, too, giving them ample opportunity to replace Lloyd. Their first pick is No. 56 overall in the second round, putting them in range for players like Cincinnati’s Jake Golday, Texas’ Anthony Hill Jr., Pittsburgh’s Kyle Louis, and Missouri’s Josiah Trotter.

If the Jaguars were willing (and able) to trade up, perhaps they could target a player such as Texas Tech’s Jacob Rodriguez or even Georgia’s CJ Allen. No matter what direction they decide to go in the draft, extending Walker is a win for Jacksonville.
