Braves Predicted to Make Aggressive Trade for $56 Million Star

The Atlanta Braves have gotten off to a strong start to the 2026 MLB season. Through their first 13 games, they have compiled an 8-5 record.

It has been a couple of years since the Braves were a legitimate contender in the National League. At least through the early stage of the season, they appear to have a chance at being a playoff team.

With that being said, there are still issues that Atlanta will need to address.

One of those issues comes in the starting rotation. The Braves could use another high-end starter to cement their status as a playoff-caliber team in the National League. An interesting name has been brought up as a possible target.

Braves Connected to Potential Trade for $56 Million Star Pitcher

On SI’s Mark Morales-Smith has come up with a potential trade package that would see the Braves work out a deal with the NL East rival Miami Marlins.

In his suggested trade package, Atlanta would acquire star pitcher Sandy Alcantara from the Marlins, along with infielder Otto Lopez, in exchange for second baseman Ozzie Albies and right-handed pitcher Lucas Braun.

“Albies has been a great Brave and is a difference-maker when he’s healthy and on the field,” Morales-Smith wrote. “Nevertheless, they badly need another starter to fill out their battered rotation. When on top of his game, Alcantara has proven he can be among the best in baseball.”

Moving on from Albies would be a difficult decision for the Braves. He’s a legitimate star when fully healthy, but the opportunity to acquire an ace-caliber pitcher would be too good to pass up for Atlanta.

What Would Sandy Alcantara Bring to Atlanta’s Rotation?

So far this season, Alcantara has been nearly unhittable.

Through his first three starts of the season, the 30-year-old starting pitcher has compiled a 2-0 record to go along with a 0.74 ERA, a 0.58 WHIP, a 4.5 K/BB ratio, and 24.1 innings pitched. He has had some ups and downs throughout his career, with one down being last season.

In 2025, Alcantara made 31 starts. He went 11-12 to go along with a 5.36 ERA, a 1.27 WHIP, a 2.5 K/BB ratio, and 174.2 innings completed.

Needless to say, it will be interesting to see what the Braves end up doing ahead of the trade deadline this year. If Atlanta continues to win, it would not be surprising to see the front office get aggressive. Alcantara would make a lot of sense as a potential trade target if Miami places him on the trade block.
