Although the Major League Baseball trade deadline has come and gone, there are still chances to pick up players who can have an impact on Pennant chases and playoff pushes down the stretch of the regular season.
Teams like the Boston Red Sox may want to capitalize on these opportunities, as they are now firmly in playoff contention and could look to round out their roster before October.
One recently released player that the Red Sox are extremely familiar with is platoon bat Rob Refsnyder. He was released by the Seattle Mariners a few days ago and can now sign with any team that wants his services. Well, only the Boston Red Sox would want Refsnyder, given his familiarity with the organization and his past success with them.

Red Sox Urged to Claim Rob Refsnyder

Rob Refsnyder hasn’t had the most productive season after signing a one-year deal with the Seattle Mariners, but there is still time to make amends.
FanSided.com’s Christopher Kline is urging the Boston Red Sox to pick up Refsnyder for the remainder of the season, despite the struggles:
“Rob Refsnyder is another “value signing” from last offseason that has aged like exposed milk on a summer day. Refsnyder’s appeal was very simple: he absolutely crushes left-handed pitching. Or so we thought. Boston got plenty of mileage out of the Refsnyder platoon a year ago, when he posted a .959 OPS against southpaws. Well, he has a .506 OPS against southpaws in Seattle. Whether it’s a weird Mariners curse or something more deeply emblematic about the 35-year-old’s career arc, Refsnyder’s value has reached an all-time low.”
The thing about Refsnyder is, the Red Sox could look past the 2026 struggles because of the success he’s had with the organization in the past.

Rob Refsnyder is an 11-year MLB veteran, but for most of his career, he was just a journeyman utility player who didn’t play much until he joined the Boston Red Sox.
Red Sox fans should remember Refsnyder well, as he was a left-handed pitching destroyer over four seasons.
In 309 total games played with Boston, Rob hit 27 home runs, drove in 119 runs, and batted .276 with an OPS+ of 123. All of those marks were clear career-highs with any organization he’s been a part of, and over 11 seasons, he’s played with seven different teams. The Red Sox clearly found something with his swing, or Refsnyder just loved hitting at Fenway Park, but something was clearly working for him in Boston, and that’s what leads to many MLB writers and analysts urging the Red Sox to pick him up again.
