Bills Predicted to Trade Young Rising Playmaker to Land DK Metcalf

The NFL Draft begins this Thursday, with the Buffalo Bills set to make their selection at the 26th pick.

Buffalo has several paths it could take with that selection, but could it also be considering trading it for a proven player?

The Bills are one of the few teams poised to contend for a Super Bowl next season. After falling short in their quest for the Big Game for the last six years, they should seriously consider trading their first-round pick at No. 26. Instead of selecting a rookie, they could acquire a playmaker who is ready to contribute from Day 1 and help them pursue that championship glory.

Buffalo might consider trading its pick for a defensive player, but doing so could hinder its ability to add another playmaker for Josh Allen.

Bills Urged to Trade For DK Metcalf

On Monday, Ethen Hutton, a writer for Fanstay Sports on SI, published a mock trade featuring the Bills. In this proposed deal, the Bills would exchange the 26th overall pick and wide receiver Keon Coleman for the Pittsburgh Steelers in return for star wide receiver DK Metcalf.

“In the proposed deal, Pittsburgh sends Metcalf to the Bills for a package centered around Buffalo’s upcoming first-round pick,” Hutton wrote. “The Bills own the No. 26 overall pick, which will go to the Steelers as they eye their next franchise wideout. Keon Coleman presents the offense with additional depth at the position and could offer high upside over the long-term with a consistent role.

“In Buffalo, Metcalf would join the likes of Josh Allen and recently acquired receiver DJ Moore, bolstering one of the most explosive offensive attacks in the NFL. The addition of Metcalf could open up the Bills’ passing game, creating separation for Moore and veteran wideout Khalil Shakir in the intermediate passing attack.”

Metcalf has been in the NFL for seven seasons, spending his first six with the Seahawks before Seattle traded him to the Steelers last offseason.

In 112 games, Metcalf has recorded 497 receptions for 7,174 yards and 54 touchdowns. Last season, he added 59 receptions for 850 yards and six scores in just 15 games.

How the Trade Would Look for Both Teams

The Steelers might consider trading Metcalf this offseason since they acquired Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr.

Pittsburgh could consider drafting a rookie wide receiver with its 20th overall pick. Then, it might trade with the Bills to acquire Coleman and the 26th pick, allowing it to address another position.

The Steelers may enter this season with a lineup that includes Pittman, a first-round receiver, and Coleman, while the Bills could be looking at an impressive receiving core featuring Metcalf and Moore, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.

The main question is whether the Bills would want to spend their first two picks this year on veteran receivers, especially since they recently traded for Moore and dealt their second-round pick in this year’s draft to the Bears.

There’s a good chance the Bills might trade the 26th pick for a veteran defender. However, if they can acquire someone like Metcalf, it could be a game-changer for the offense.
