Bills Predicted to Add Dual-Threat QB Behind Josh Allen

The Buffalo Bills brought back a familiar face to back up Josh Allen, re-signing his friend and former backup Kyle Allen.

The team could have more additions to the quarterback room before the start of training camp, with one analyst predicting the Bills will invest a rare draft pick on a quarterback who can grow into a long-term backup for Allen.

Bills Predicted to Add Intriguing Rookie Quarterback

SI.com’s Ralph Ventre suggested the Bills could land Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels, who showed some strong leadership potential with the Jayhawks.

“While his passing totals were rather pedestrian, Daniels proved his leadership abilities with Kansas,” Ventre wrote. “The first-ever four-time captain in Kansas history excelled in the classroom. Daniels was 2024 Big 12 Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year before becoming a finalist for the 2025 Campbell Trophy.”

Ventre added that Daniels fits the mold of Allen, with a strong arm as well as good running ability.

“Daniels, who did not miss a start over the past two seasons, has boosted his draft stock in recent months,” Ventre wrote. “The dual-threat clocked in at 4.65 seconds in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine after an impressive showing during East West Shrine Bowl Week.”

Daniels may not crack the depth chart in his rookie season, Ventre wrote, but could serve on the scout team to help the Bills prepare for opposing quarterbacks. He could eventually develop into a long-term backup, with his rookie contract helping their salary cap.

NFL.com expert Lance Zierlein agreed that Daniels would be a long-term project, one who might be available to the Bills as an undrafted free agent.

“Daniels hasn’t shown the ability to consistently dissect defenses and win with accuracy from the pocket,” Zierlein wrote. “He has a decent arm but lacks consistent mechanics, timing and three-level ball placement. The vast majority of his interceptions were due to a lack of coverage recognition. Daniels’ running ability helps, but he appears ill-prepared for an NFL passing game.”

Bills Adding Help for Josh Allen

The Bills have taken steps to help Allen after the offense struggled at times during the 2025 season. The team already traded for wide receiver DJ Moore, and some analysts believe they will add more offensive firepower in the draft.

Reporter Ryan Talbot of NJ.com predicted the Bills would take Oregon receiver Malik Benson in the fifth round, noting that his speed could be a major asset to an offense that has lacked it.

“Malik Benson has been selected in both of our mock drafts to date. Benson would bring a speed element to Buffalo’s offense (4.37 40-yard dash),” Talbor wrote. “The team reportedly dined and held a private workout with the receiver during the pre-draft process.”

Others have suggested the Bills could take Texas A&M wide receiver KC Concepcion, who met with the team for a pre-draft visit this month. The Bills may need to make a move if they want to land Concepcion, with some mock drafts placing him closer to the middle of the first round and gone by the time the Bills select at No. 26.
