Bears’ Coby Bryant Receives Clear Message After Seahawks Exit

The Seattle Seahawks‘ front office needed to make challenging decisions this offseason. As a result, they let a few key players from their Super Bowl LX-winning team, including Coby Bryant.

Over the offseason, the 26-year-old agreed to a three-year deal worth $40 million with the Chicago Bearsper ESPN.

During his four seasons with the Seahawks, Bryant played in 58 games, recording 208 total tackles (138 solo, 70 assisted), seven interceptions, seven forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and 17 passes defended.

Heading into his first season with Chicago, former NFL player Clay Harbor shared his expectation for the former Seattle standout.

“When you replace an All‑Pro, you’re making top‑15 money, you can’t just fit into the defense,” Harbor said in a March 21 video from his X account. “You’ve got to change the defense. You need splash plays. You’ve got to be able to make the defense more versatile. You’ve got to handle the tight ends and make sure there are no mismatch problems.

“You’ve got to be able to come down from the deep safety position to stop the run. You’ve got to make this whole defense more versatile, and you’ve got to become a leader because you’re replacing a leader. So I think those are the things that you’ve got to expect.”

Coby Bryant Wants to Play Seahawks in Week 1

The Seahawks know the opponents they’ll face in the 2026 NFL season, but they don’t yet know the exact schedule. Nonetheless, Bryant is telling the league’s schedule makers that he would like to play his old team in Week 1.

On March 19, Bryant appeared on “Up & Adams” and understood that the Bears are playing the Seahawks this upcoming season, noting that he would like for his new team to head to Seattle in Week 1 to spoil the celebrations.

“Every game’s a meaningful game, but I wouldn’t mind honestly starting the season off out there [against the Seahawks],” Bryant told Adams. “Weather would be nice; the whole world will be watching.”

Moreover, Bryant believes his new team will be up to face the Seahawks regardless of where the NFL decides to schedule this game.

“I’m always motivated,” Bryant noted. “I know [Bears head coach Ben Johnson] will be too, and Caleb [Williams] and the rest of the team will be. Like I said, we’re building something special over there, and I’m excited.”

Coby Bryant Talks Reason for Joining the Bears

Moreover, Bryant also spoke about his decision to leave the Seahawks and how Bears QB Caleb Williams was a major selling point in his decision to sign with the Bears, given that the player appears set on playing for a contender and not just chasing the money.

“It’s always tough leaving Seattle,” Bryant told host Adams. “Just what we’ve built for the last two years with Coach Mike [Macdonald], all my brothers. That was definitely the toughest thing about leaving those guys. But with Caleb Williams, the special talent he is, the leader he is.

“He actually reached out to me. He was the first person to reach out to me after I signed, and we were texting back and forth, catching up and getting to know each other. I was telling him what we could build and going off of that. Just for him reaching out to me meant a lot, honestly. With me playing safety, him being quarterback, and him recognizing my game and vice versa.”
