From 2009 world champion to team ambassador. Aston Martin confirmed a surprising move on Monday: the signing of Jenson Button as a team ambassador on a multi-year deal.
The Briton arrives from Williams, where he fulfilled ambassador, advisor and heritage driver duties from 2021 to 2025 after debuting in Formula 1 with the team in 2000.
Button raced for a number of teams during his Formula 1 career and never represented the Silverstone-based squad — formerly known as Jordan and Force India — in any of its previous forms. However, his long-standing connection with Aston Martin’s engine partner, Honda, dates back many years.

Button, who retired from full-time racing at the end of 2025, enjoyed a long and successful association with Honda across multiple phases of his career. He made 142 grand prix starts with Honda-powered machinery — more than any other driver, including Ayrton Senna’s 96 — and secured the brand its first victory as a full works constructor at the 2006 Hungarian Grand Prix. That win came during his time with the Honda-powered BAR team in the mid-2000s, which later became Honda’s factory team.
Following his move to McLaren, Button’s final two Formula 1 seasons were once again powered by the Japanese manufacturer.
Button’s F1 career ended with one world title, 15 grands prix victories and 50 podium finishes.
His success with Honda extended beyond Formula 1, as he went on to claim the 2018 Super GT title in Japan, again driving with Honda power.
By the middle of 2025, Jenson Button had come to the realization that his racing career had reached its end. The 46-year-old now faces a new chapter in his career.
Button Wants to Spend More Time With His Family
GettyJenson Button spent 17 years in Formula 1.
He told The Athletic, “I was like, ‘You know what? This is great and all. But I feel that I’ve spent too much time away from home’… And to be fair to the team as well, I felt that I couldn’t give as much as they needed in the following years. I thought it was the best thing to step away, let someone else jump in that seat and be competitive, who doesn’t have a wife and kids.”
“I’ve had a great career. I’ve loved it, but I want more time with my family, first of all, the most important thing in the world,” Button said. “But also, there are so many great opportunities around Formula 1 at the moment. This sport is forever growing.”
According to motorsport.com, Button said: “Joining Aston Martin during such a transformative time in the team and the sport’s history is really exciting for me.”
He added, “Honda’s new works partnership with the team was a huge draw and I look forward to bringing my years of experience working with them to my new role as ambassador. The 2026 season is going to be fascinating and being part of such an ambitious team is a real opportunity. I can’t wait for Melbourne!”
Aston Martin has confirmed that Jenson Button has joined the team on a multi-year agreement, with the 2009 Formula 1 world champion set to play a key role in the squad’s media, commercial and partner operations. Button will travel globally as an official representative of the team, attending races, partner programmes and media commitments on Aston Martin’s behalf.
