Alex Bregman Sends Cubs a Strong Message at Introductory Press Conference

The Chicago Cubs have made their mark this offseason. They were able to land a front-end starter when they traded for Edward Cabrera. The Cubs then followed that up by signing Alex Bregman to a 5-year contract with a full no-trade clause. On Thursday, Chicago officially introduced Bregman as a member of the team.

During his introductory press conference, Bregman gave the Cubs and their fans a strong message about his intentions with the team.

“I wore number three because I wanted a third championship,” Bregman told the media.

Now, the other reason he needed to wear number three was that Nico Hoerner was already wearing number two. Still, the message is clear. Bregman is in Chicago because he wants to bring another World Series to Wrigley Field.

Cubs World Series Chances

This November will be 11 years since the Cubs defeated the Cleveland Guardians in seven games to win the World Series in 2016. Last year, Chicago fell short in the NLDS as they were beaten by the Milwaukee Brewers. The pitching fell apart in the postseason, and the hitters were streaky.

This year, the Cubs are hoping to have the pitching depth to avoid those meltdowns this year. The addition of Cabrera, while also adding Phil Maton, Hoby Milner, and Hunter Harvey, should help that. At the plate, Bregman is the only real addition to the lineup. The team is losing Kyle Tucker, but adding Bregman will help make up for the lost offense.

Besides Tucker, Chicago returns the rest of the lineup. This is a lineup that finished the regular season sixth in home runs, fifth in runs scored, and seventh in OPS. They will not be losing a whole bunch of power, and the average will remain mostly the same, with Bregman replacing Tucker.

With spring training right around the corner, the Cubs are the favorites to win the NL Central division. Health is going to play a major role, along with Chicago’s ability to remain consistent. But Bregman is only making the Cubs stronger.

Alex Bregman is a Winner

“The City of Chicago loves sports and they love winning and hopefully we can win a lot for them,” Bregman said at his press conference.

Bregman is a born-winner. He played at a powerhouse college in LSU, which included a National Championship in 2015. He then went on to win two World Series with the Houston Astros before parting ways with the team.

The 31-year-old helped the Boston Red Sox to the playoffs last season, as well. He wins everywhere he goes, and Chicago should not be any different. The Cubs have surrounded him with plenty of talent, and the team may not be done making moves.

With his playoff and World Series experience, the Cubs are getting a great presence in the clubhouse. As long as he stays healthy, there is no reason why Chicago should not finish at the top of their division.
