Alec Bohm Drops Agent Amid On and Off Field Troubles

The start of the 2026 season has been a turbulent one for Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm. Bohm is in the last year of his contract with the Phillies before hitting free agency for the first time, and in a contract year, he’s faced numerous off-field distractions to start the season.

First came the news that Bohm was suing his parents for mismanagement of his finances, and now Bohm is moving on from MLB super agent Scott Boras.

With Bohm’s impending free agency this offseason, his next moves will define the rest of his career, and he prefers to move forward without Boras as his representation.

Under Duress

Alec Bohm’s lawyers last week requested a preliminary injunction seeking $528,618, alleging that Bohm’s parents withdrew it from a brokerage account, according to the April 13 Athletic article on Bohm by Charlotte Varnes and Matt Gelb. And this week, Bohm fired his agent, Scott Boras, and it appears the two issues are related.

According to The Athletic, after firing Boras, Bohm rehired his previous agent, Nick Chanock. Chanock is an agent withThe Team(formerly Wasserman), and according to a signed affidavit last week, Bohm might not have wanted to get rid of Chanock in the first place.

“Bohm, in a signed affidavit submitted to the court last week, alleged that his parents steered him toward hiring Boras in 2020 underconsiderable duresstofurther their own interests, to my detriment,’ wrote Varnes and Gelb. That decision, Bohm contended, was largely because his parents disagreed with a third-party financial advisor recommended to him by Wasserman’s agents.”

Boras, in a statement to The Athletic, wished Bohm the best, and helped him secure $10.2 million in the last year of his current contract with the Phillies through salary arbitration. Now, if Bohm wants to secure a similar salary next year and beyond, he will need to snap out of one of the worst slumps of his career.

Getting Back In a Groove

Alec Bohm has been in this position before. He’s struggled mightily and then come out on the other side, with so much swirling in Bohm’s life off the field now as well, one could assume this is a different beast, but Bohm is taking the same approach.

In Tuesday’s game against the Chicago Cubs, Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber sat next to Bohm after he had just struck out with a chance to tie the game or take the lead in the eighth inning. Ty Daubert of Phillies Nation, in his April 15 article, wrote about Bohm, detailing his conversation with Schwarber.

“I actually went and just sat next to him,Bohm said Wednesday inside the Phillies’ clubhouse, just because I’d rather sit next to him than sit alone. Just kind of reiterating the same thing. I started in the same spot last year and told everyone,I’m going to end up hitting .280 this year.Ended up hitting .280. We’re in the same spot.”

Bohm is optimistic, but he is letting it be known that the frustration does get to him at times.

I’ve been here long enough to not be worried,Bohm said, but obviously, no matter how long you’ve been doing it, it’s still frustrating.”

On the season, Bohm is hitting .145, has a .217 OBP, and a -0.4 WAR. Bohm’s next chance to turn his season around will be on Friday when the Phillies play their NL East division rival, the Atlanta Braves.
