Alabama QB Ty Simpson Gets Reality Check on NFL Future

Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson has decided to take his talents into the 2026 NFL Draft.

Following the loss in the Rose Bowl against the Indiana Hoosiers, all eyes were on Simpson as he weighed his options for the future. There was a split opinion about what he should do, with some advising him to stay in college for one more season and others thinking it was time to head to the NFL.

Simpson decided to enter the draft and pursue his dream of playing professional football.

Even after he announced his intention to enter the draft, other college teams were calling him and trying to convince him to stay for one more year. He was even offered an NIL deal up to $6.5 million to remain in college and transfer away from Alabama.

Despite the heavy interest, Simpson remained in the draft. Recently, he received a rough reality check about his potential NFL future.

Alabama’s Ty Simpson Won’t Love This New Projection

Pro Football Network analyst T.J. Randall revealed where he thinks Simpson will end up being drafted. He doesn’t see the Crimson Tide standout being a first round pick.

Instead, he projected the young quarterback to land with the New York Jets with the first pick of the second round at No. 33 overall.

“With the first pick of the second round, New York (hopefully) has their quarterback of the future,” Randall wrote. “Simpson’s performance backslid down the stretch, but the positive moments confidently fell under the first-round scope.”

Falling out of the first round would be a disappointing result for Simpson. It would cost him quite a bit of money. At that point, returning to college could have led to him being a top-10 pick in the 2027 NFL Draft had he chosen to go that route.

Only time will tell what the draft has in store for Simpson. There is a very legitimate chance he could be a mid-first-round pick. However, there is also a chance that he could slide to his lack of experience at the college level.

Taking a Look at Ty Simpson’s Career at Alabama

Simpson ended up spending all four years of his college career with the Crimson Tide. He didn’t become a starter until the 2025 season.

In that 2025 campaign, the signal caller completed 64.5 percent of his pass attempts for 3,567 yards, 28 touchdowns, and just five interceptions. At one point, he was a front-runner to win the coveted Heisman Trophy. After his play declined late in the year, those hopes were dashed.

Alabama fans will not soon forget the season that Simpson put together. He performed well from an individual standpoint and was a well-liked leader in the locker room and on the field.

Now, Simpson will look to the future. Regardless of where he ends up, the Crimson Tide fan base will continue rooting him on.
