The 2026 NFL Draft is under a month away and Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson remains one of the most talked about prospects.
After an impressive lone season as the starting quarterback at Alabama, Simpson has received a lot of hype as a first-round pick. Some projections have him slipping into the second round, but lately his draft stock has been soaring.
With that being said, a new update has been shared about Simpson ahead of the draft.
As shared by ESPN’s Adam Schefter on March 25, Simpson is scheduled to have a private workout with the New York Jets on Friday. Right now, the Jets hold the No. 2 and No. 16 overall picks in the draft.
“Alabama QB Ty Simpson is scheduled to hold a private workout this Friday with the Jets, per @FieldYates,” Schefter wrote on X. “The Jets own picks No. 2 and No. 16 in this year’s first round.”
Ty Simpson Would Be a Perfect Pick for the New York Jets
Aaron Glenn and the Jets badly need to find a franchise quarterback. They struck out with Justin Fields last season and currently have no clear direction under center.
It’s unlikely that New York would take Simpson with the No. 2 pick, but the No. 16 selection would make a ton of sense.
Over the last couple of years, the Jets have pushed hard to get back into playoff contention. At the end of the day, the quarterback situation has been one of their main downfalls. If they can get that issue fixed, they could get back on track.
Simpson might very well be the guy who can make that happen in New York.
Taking a Look at Simpson’s Career at Alabama
Throughout the course of the 2025 season, Simpson was one of the best quarterbacks in the nation. He was even a top-tier Heisman Trophy candidate at one point.
When all was said and done, he completed 64.5 percent of his pass attempts for 3,567 yards, 28 touchdowns, and five interceptions, while also running for 93 yards and two more scores.
Simpson finished his college career having spent all four seasons with the Crimson Tide. He totaled 3,948 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, and five interceptions. He also chipped in with 223 yards and five scores on the ground.
He doesn’t have a lot of playing experience outside of the 2025 season. That has been a red flag for some teams, but the talent is clear.
Regardless of where Simpson ends up being draft, he’ll have a chance to create a long career for himself. Don’t be surprised if the Jets end up being that team.
