The San Diego Padres announced via X that Mason Miller had won the National League Reliever of the Month award for his performance in May.

Miller appeared in nine games during May, in which the Padres posted an 8-1 record. He recorded seven saves while allowing 0 earned runs across 9.2 innings pitched. He struck out 20 batters, allowed four hits and delivered eight walks.

However, during May, Miller was charged with his first loss since joining the San Diego Padres during the 2025 season. His loss occurred as he entered a 4-4 game in the top of the ninth inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers, and then committed an error which allowed the run to score and resulted in a 5-4 San Diego defeat.

Miller has now won the reliever of the month award in three consecutive months, dating back to September of last season. He previously won the award once with the Athletics, in May of 2024.

On the season, Miller has a 1-1 record with a 0.72 ERA across 25 innings. He leads Major League Baseball with 17 saves.

Padres vs Phillies

Unfortunately for the Padres, Mason Miller has not appeared over the last three games as the team has been trailing heading into the ninth inning. He has not pitched in any of San Diego’s four games against Philadelphia this season

Regarding San Diego’s latest loss against the Philadelphia Phillies, who have now won four consecutive games over the Padres, manager Craig Stammen said after the game, “They just kind of outplayed us just a hair today. You know, one-run win by them. We didn’t do the little things to help us stay in the game and win that one.”

Walker Buehler is set to make his 12th start of the season. He enters Wednesday’s game with a 3-3 record and a 4.88 ERA. Buehler pitched well in his previous outing against the Phillies as he pitched 5.1 innings, while allowing only two runs. Both runs came after he departed the contest, but left-handed reliever Adrian Morejon failed to strand the runners.
