The San Francisco 49ers endured several injuries this past 2025 NFL season, and a recent viral conspiracy theory emerged, explaining why the Niners are always dealing with injuries season after season.
San Francisco plan to explore every possible reason why these injuries keep happening year after year. This will include looking into the viral theory that the electrical substation near their training facility and Levi’s Stadium might be a factor.
Nonetheless, 49ers’ linebacker Fred Warner isn’t buying the conspiracy as the reason for the team’s constant injuries.
“There are a lot of mixed reviews about that,” Warner said on the St. Brown Podcast (h/t KNBR). “I think, at the end of the day, when you look at the actual data behind it, is that real or not? I think it’s false, and I’ll be the first to tell you because I train year‑round at our facility. I’m not going to sit here and say that a substation was the reason why I got my ankle broke in half. That was a fluke injury, right?
“But before that, I had missed one game. You know what I’m saying? I had one game missed on, I have a fluke hand me that I had where I stepped wrong. And I’ve been super healthy for seven plus years, and I don’t think the substation may have gave me super powers. I don’t know. You know what I’m saying? I guess if you just overdose on it, you get Hulk strength or something.”
Fred Warner Explains Reason for 49ers Injuries
As Warner mentioned, during his time with the Niners, he’s been relatively healthy, posting 597 solo tackles, 351 assists, 10.0 sacks, seven fumble recoveries, and 10 interceptions in 121 games, per StatMuse.
Nonetheless, Warner offered his theory on why injuries have constantly hit the 49ers since he entered the league in 2018.
“We have had a bunch of injuries since I’ve been here, but a lot of it is because we have an older roster, right?” Warner added. “We train harder than a lot of people in the NFL when it comes to how we practice and do all these other little things. It’s just a combination of all that, and it’s football at the end of the day. It’s one hundred percent injury guarantee rate.”
John Lynch Says Niners Will Investigate Substation Theory
Regardless of what Warner says, 49ers general manager John Lynch recently stated that the franchise will investigate the electrical substation theory this offseason.
“Because it deals with allegedly the health and safety of our players, I think you have to look into everything,” Lynch said in a Jan. 21 article from Nick Wagoner of ESPN. “We’ve been reaching out to anyone and everyone to see, does a study exist other than a guy sticking an apparatus underneath the fence and coming up with a number that I have no idea what that means? That’s what we know exists.
“We’ve heard that debunked. … The health and safety of our players is of the utmost priority. We pore into it. Our ownership, Jed [York] is tremendous in terms of resources, and we’ll always be cognizant of things. I know that a lot of games have been won at this facility since it opened, but yeah, we aren’t going to turn a blind eye.”
