49ers Face New Brandon Aiyuk Development After Latest Report

Brandon Aiyuk’s situation with the San Francisco 49ers has taken a new turn as the California Post reported on June 3 that a warrant for the wideout has been issued in Northern California.

“The 49ers receiver is wanted on a misdemeanor charge of exhibition of speed, the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office confirmed,” the outlet wrote. “Prosecutors did not offer any further comment on the case. The matter, according to court records obtained by The Post, stems from a video Aiyuk posted to his YouTube page in December.”

Moreover, the California Post reached out to Aiyuk’s representation for comment, but they didn’t respond. David Lombardi of the SF Standard also confirmed the California Post’s report.

“Just confirmed with the Santa Clara County DA’s office that there is indeed a misdemeanor charge and warrant out for Brandon Aiyuk’s arrest,” Lombardi wrote on June 3 on X. “The [California Post] first reported that this stems back to the December video Aiyuk posted of himself speeding by Levi’s Stadium.”

49ers Insider Shares Thoughts on Brandon Aiyuk Situation

This news comes as Aiyuk and the 49ers are at a standstill, with the Niners preferring to trade him rather than release him. Nonetheless, no team has emerged with a serious offer.

Meanwhile, as of June 3, Aiyuk is following only five accounts: One is the Washington Commanders, and the other is their QB, Jayden Daniels. As a result, that’s Aiyuk’s way of probably saying he wants to go to Washington.

Still, Washington might not wait forever, as there are intriguing veteran options still in the free-agent market. With the situation still at a standstill, 49ers reporter for The Athletic, Matt Barrows, shared his thoughts on the matter.

“This idea that he’s done or that he can’t run routes anymore, that his knee is destroyed, that certainly wasn’t what they were saying eight months ago, Barrows said during a May 27 appearance on 95.7 The Game.

“They thought he would be back. They thought he would be a contributor, and I think the hope was that he’d be a contributor in the playoffs. But something else happened. No one has gotten to the bottom of it. No one knows why he doesn’t return calls. I don’t think he’s returning calls from the agent.”

Commanders’ Jayden Daniels on Brandon Aiyuk Situation

Recently, Commanders QB Jayden Daniels was asked about his close friend and was blunt with his remarks.

“I don’t know, I don’t have a sense on it, Daniels said (h/t Pro Football Talk). “That is my brother and we have a personal relationship. His football future, that’s out of my control.”

Aiyuk has not played since Week 7 of the 2024 season, and with no clear timeline for resolving matters with the 49ers, there is little reason to expect him back on the field anytime soon, whether for the Commanders or any other team.

It will be interesting to see whether this latest report affects Washington’s interest in the wideout, or if this is a minor situation and they’ll still jump on the player if the Niners were to release him.
