Dolphins $21 Million Starter Sends Blunt Message on Jaylen Waddle Trade

The Miami Dolphins have spent the offseason tearing their roster to bits and pieces. While some moves were expected, the Dolphins’ decision to trade Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos was quite surprising, as the team had publicly come out and said it wasn’t looking to trade him. Instead, Miami’s offense lost its top remaining pass catcher in the blink of an eye.

While Miami is obviously rebuilding, its offense looks particularly desolate heading into the 2026 NFL Draft. The players left in town have certainly taken note of the state of the roster, with star offensive lineman Aaron Brewer recently revealing that he was furious after seeing the Dolphins send Waddle to the Broncos.

Aaron Brewer Reveals Initial Reaction to Jaylen Waddle Trade

With Miami releasing Tyreek Hill earlier this offseason, that left Waddle as the top wide receiver in town for the Dolphins. Even with the Dolphins’ offense laboring through a horrific campaign, Waddle still managed to put together a strong campaign in 2025, as he caught 64 passes for 910 yards and six scores.

If there was anyone who had a better year than Waddle, though, it was Brewer. From seemingly out of nowhere, Brewer turned himself into one of the top centers in the league, as he started all 16 games he played in for Miami. His strong play earned him a spot on the All-Pro Second Team, the first time he’s won such an honor in his career.

With so many talented players leaving town, though, Brewer’s task of helping keep the offense afloat in 2026 has become even more difficult. Moving on from Waddle could end up being one of the more destructive short-term moves for this team, with Brewer revealing his frustration in the wake of the deal coming to light.

“My initial reaction is I’m just shocked. I’m shook,” Brewer said on “The Set.” “I’m like, what are we doing? But then at the same time, I’m happy for my brother. It’s always a family perspective, like, yeah, I want to have the best team we can have, but I love when people go to a different position and I always wish the best for them. So, I hope he’s fine.”

Dolphins Still Need to Find a Proper Replacement for Jaylen Waddle

With Waddle and Hill gone now, that leaves running back De’Von Achane as the only guy on Miami’s offense who will truly worry opposing defenses moving forward. As things currently stand, Malik Washington, Jalen Tolbert, and Tutu Atwell are leading the way for the Dolphins at wide receiver, which isn’t exactly a trio that is going to make life easier for new quarterback Malik Willis.

With the 2026 NFL Draft drawing near, Miami would be wise to add a couple of wide receivers who can come in and immediately contribute on offense. The Dolphins have a pair of first-round picks at their disposal, which will allow them to be as aggressive as they see fit, and who knows, maybe they could make a big move up the board in the first round in an effort to land one of the top wide receivers available.
