The Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) has paid tribute to Princess Diana over the years by wearing several pieces of jewelry previously owned by her late mother-in-law. Kate’s most recognizable piece is of course Diana’s famous sapphire engagement ring. But it’s not just Diana’s jewelry, Prince William’s wife has also worn a number of pieces that once belonged to other members as well and with some of those has taken a page right out of her mother-in-law’s book.

In 1985, Princess Diana turned heads when she wore an emerald diamond choker as a headband at a banquet in Australia. The exquisite piece was originally given to Queen Mary in 1911 by the Delhi Durbar during her visit with King George to India.

Decades later, Kate too took one of Queen Mary’s chokers and wore it in a way that was more modern for her.

Jewelry and diamond expert for the U.K. retailer <a href=”http://www.stevenstone.co.uk/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Steven Stone, Maxwell Stone told Showbiz Cheat Sheet: “Kate’s diamond chain link bracelet is an incredibly historic piece of jewelry as it originally belonged to Queen Mary. Though when it was in Queen Mary’s possession, it was part of her collection of diamond chokers. Created at some point during the 1920s, it’s unknown whether the choker was originally designed to be worn as a bracelet or if it was modified later, but with the Princess of Wales having worn it as a bracelet on multiple occasions, it’s unlikely that it will be worn as a choker in the near future.

“It’s heart-warming to see that Kate has followed in the steps of her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, when it comes to wearing jewelry in her own unique way, knowing exactly how to make each piece in her collection stand out.”
