Titans Receive Strong Joey Bosa Take Amid 49ers Speculation

The San Francisco 49ers have been speculated to be a potential landing spot for veteran pass rusher Joey Bosa. Nonetheless, it doesn’t appear to be a road that the Niners are heading, at least for now.

As a result, if San Francisco doesn’t see Bosa as an option, the veteran will need to look at other options. One potential option, which also has a 49ers connection, is joining former Niners defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, who is now the head coach of the Tennessee Titans.

On the May 4 edition of CBS Sports HQ, CBS Sports’ Tyler Sullivan explained why the Titans make sense for Bosa.

“He had five sacks for the Buffalo Bills last season and could return there if he wants to follow a similar path and join a team with Super Bowl potential,” Sullivan said. “That said, Joey Bosa may prefer some familiarity at this stage of his career, which makes the Tennessee Titans a logical fit, with Gus Bradley as defensive coordinator. Bradley previously held the same role during Bosa’s time with the Los Angeles Chargers.

“The Titans have been adding edge rushers this offseason, but Bosa could still fit as a rotational pass rusher. He is no longer the version of himself that consistently produced double-digit sacks, but he could help establish a defensive culture alongside Bradley and first-year head coach Robert Saleh, while contributing as the team hopes Cam Ward takes a leap in Year 2.”

49ers Insider’s Take on Joey Bosa Situation

While it doesn’t appear the 49ers will have the Bosa brothers together this upcoming 2026 NFL season, NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco stated that the older Bosa is an option, but also too expensive for San Francisco.

“As long as Joey Bosa remains unsigned, he’s still an option,” Maiocco said in a May 4 video on his YouTube channel. “Some of the top available players include Haason Reddick, Joey Bosa, and Michael Danna from Kansas City. Leonard Floyd was previously with the 49ers, but after being released, a return seems unlikely.

“Still, even with those names out there, it’s not something to expect. While they are options, it doesn’t seem likely the team would be willing to pay Joey Bosa the kind of money he’s looking for.”

Joey Bosa to the Niners Makes Sense for Analyst

It’s still unclear if Bosa will ultimately strike a deal with the 49ers. But in the eyes of CBS Sports analyst Mike Renner, the fit makes plenty of sense. San Francisco needs help off the edge, and Bosa still has enough left to be a productive piece.

“They do have the fourth-most cap space in the NFL, and now they have some escalating contracts, and maybe they want to hold on to that for the rollover,” Renner said on the April 26 edition of CBS Sports HQ. “But they also want to push their chips to the table because this is getting old.

“A lot of their impact guys are kind of at the end of their rope, whether it’s Trent Williams, Christian McCaffrey, or even his brother Nick Bosa. This is kind of the time. Joey Bosa was productive last season. He obviously has been banged up throughout the course of his career, but he had 47 pressures.”
