MAGA-aligned U.S. Representative Nancy Mace (R-SC), who is running for Governor of South Carolina, introduced a constitutional amendment to bar naturalized American citizens including Democratic Reps. Ilhan Omar (MN), Shri Thanedar (MI), and Pramila Jayapal (WA) from serving in the U.S. Congress.
Democrats, including Jayapal, who shared the post from Rep. Becca Balint below, called Mace’s amendment “racist legislation.”
This post from my colleague is racist, disgusting, and anti-American. She should truly be ashamed of herself. https://t.co/0NYBV8CysZ

Mace wrote of the amendment: “The people writing America’s laws, confirming America’s judges, and representing America on the world stage should have one loyalty: America. Not any other country.”

When Mace added: “America FIRST. Not Somalia. Not India. Not China. Not anywhere else,” Community Notes on X noted, “Mace has prioritized Israel. Voting to send aid there instead of America.”
Far-right political commentator Nick Fuentes, whom Heritage Foundation president Kevin Roberts once accused of “fomenting Jew hatred,” replied to Mace: “Think you’re missing one.”
Influential immigration lawyer Aidan Simardone also replied with a screenshot from Mace’s website which features a photo of the Congresswoman standing next to an Israeli flag with the title, “Voted yes to send aid to Israel.”

[NOTE: Mace’s amendment would also affect Republican naturalized American citizens serving Congress, including Sen. Bernie Moreno (Colombia) and Rep. Victoria Spartz (Ukraine), among others.]
